I finally found a plumber for life. Knowing absolutely nothing about him, I found Alberto through this website. After reading the multitude of positive reviews on him and meeting with him in person to gauge and scope my project, I hired Alberto to replace ALL of the crumbling, galvanized water pipes in my house a job I wasn't about to give to just anyone. I could have split the job or done a lot less, but after meeting him, studying photos of his work and what people were saying about him, I decided to give him a go. Alberto literally re-plumbed my entire house with brand new copper pipes and fittings. A huge, pain of a job. I can't stress this enough he did a PHENOMENAL job. With the basics; showing up on time, communicating, explaining, negotiating, etc., I found him to be highly professional, respectful and conscientious. With honesty and integrity: an A++. He explained the different grades of copper piping and how to see the difference so I knew what I was getting. With quality: his craftsmanship was fully reflective of the work I saw in photos and looked even better in real life. With pricing: Alberto worked within my budget and went above and beyond. Selfishly, I don't want the world to know my secret. But this guy deserves the success he has wrought. You'd be a fool not to hire him. I know I will again and obviously, I'm telling the world. Thank you again Alberto! I couldn't be happier with the job you did!

Matt, though soft-spoken, fell short in various aspects during our engagement with him. Here are the key issues:
The job (as posted on Thumbtack): Need to fix one leaking toilet, 1 leaking faucet and install 2 bidet seats. Matt later found the kids bathroom toilet to be wobbly.
The key issues were:
1) Punctuality: The appointment was set for 10 am via Thumbtack. We got a message at 10:57 am that his previous job was taking a lot longer and he’d head our way in an hour or so. He did not show up till after 12:45 pm. More on Thumbtack's "make appointment now" feature in another post!
2) Poor work planning: He worked on 3 toilets and one utility room faucet. He had all 4 going at the same time for the entire time. Upon his advice, we agreed to change all the shutoff valves (5 in total). He removed all the supply lines first, then went around removing the shutoff valves, then replaced the shutoff valves one location after another and finally replaced the supply lines. So, there was constant back and forth all day between the 3 bathrooms and the utility room.
3) Material management: The poor work planning also meant he went to the hardware store twice during the job. This was despite us having already purchased 2 shutoff valves, 1 fill valve, and the replacement faucet for the utility room sink before he came.
4) Disorganization: He “misplaced” multiple items during the job. Once he went all over the house looking for his vehicle keys, another time he mentioned he lost the “ball bearing” to his tool. At the end of the day, we found a jar of plumber’s putty lying around and gave it to him, and he also left behind a 5-gal Home Depot bucket
5) Needlessly complicating work: Strange thing was he shut himself in the utility room and 10 mins later came with bad news! In removing the 2 shutoff valves in the utility room, he said it was previously tightened too much and so the copper tubing was crimped and would not take any new fittings. So, he cut a large section of the drywall behind the vanity to redo the plumbing for this sink. He also cut large holes in the vanity, and we’ll need to spend a pretty penny fixing these.
6) Incomplete work: As some of the pictures show, he left us with 2 unusable toilets and a mess to clean up after. For one toilet, the supply line was not even connected. On another one, he shut himself in the toilet and came out with bad news – that the toilet was shaky too and we ought not to use it lest we damage the flooring etc. Additionally, the tank for this toilet would not fill up after the repairs! We did not go back on Thumbtack for another plumber and got a recommendation instead for a qualified plumber to fix this mess and oh by the way, the 2nd toilet was solidly affixed, and nothing needed to be done.
7) Cost: Matt never gave us an estimate for the work (our mistake for not asking soon after he surveyed the work) and just charged us for the entire time, even though the work was unfinished. We asked him to leave as-is as he said he’d need to charge double for the remaining work.
We decided to hire him due to the high ratings on Thumbtack - yet another platform where the ratings don't mean much. Overall, very poor value for the exorbitant cost and a disappointing experience.
