Natalia B. says, "Julian was absolutely delightful to work with. I had a fairly difficult request where I wanted about half of my cabinets resurfaced and the rest spot fixed in my kitchen and 2 bathrooms and my front door. There were various levels of damage and Julian carefully went through each cabinet and door to sand and restain them. He also stripped and re-stained the front door which had 2 different colors on the outside and inside and 2 large holes that needed to be patched from a new doorknob. Julian consulted me with a plan daily and showed up ready to work. He was tidy and peaceful to be around. He was also easy to text about the project and what we should do next. He is a highly skilled craftsman and I will continue to hire him for projects. I can't recommend him enough!"See more

Sharon Flynn says, "We had the *BEST* experience with Green Bay Remodeling! Our home turned out better than we could have imagined. Ariel, our Project Manager, was knowledgable, friendly, responsive, and always acted ethically and professionally. He also gracefully navigated heated design disputes between my husband and I, and I'm happy to say we are still married!! (haha) We appreciated Ariel's sincere desire to have the project come out exactly as we envisioned, regardless of whether it meant extra work for his crew. Ariel gave us a realistic timeline of the work (though we were delayed 11 months by the city's permitting process) and actually finished well ahead of schedule. Ariel went well ABOVE AND BEYOND with efforts for a very beautiful outcome and happy clients. Our construction team was careful to clean up any mess at the end of the day and was very respectful of our deadlines, schedules, and our tenant (who lived in her little cottage throughout the noise and inconvenience of construction). The construction bid was on the high side of those we interviewed but we very much appreciated not being "nickel and dimed" as friends were experiencing from a different company at the same time. The bid price they submitted on the contract was what we paid, despite the price of lumber going up enormously and unexpectedly during Covid, and we liked that we paid in stages as work was completed. This was a large kitchen remodel, turning a bedroom into an open-concept extension of the kitchen, adding a large deck, replacing floors, and painting (we also upgraded media and HVAC through other companies happening during the project and our construction team worked well with them). I wholeheartedly recommend Green Bay Remodeling to anyone looking to make the construction process less of a headache and to achieve a beautiful end result."See more

David T. says, "Consulted with over 12 construction companies, and chose to go with Rose Remodeling & Design for our bathroom remodel because they were mid-range in price quote, and overall gave the best “first impression” during initial consultations. I just felt a good vibe from Adir from the very beginning - felt like he thoroughly addressed all my questions/concerns in a genuine non-pushy manner unlike many others who were clearly just sales people. We’ve had poor previous experiences with contractors, hence having to redo our bathroom after only 13 yrs due to an active leak in our shower. I was apprehensive initially due to the newness of the company (8 months), but from beginning to end Adir proved that his company is definitely 5 stars! (Company is new but they are licensed and all very experienced/have been doing construction for years). He was always very responsive and was in constant communication with me throughout the entire project. He gave superb design advice while being respectful of our own preferences/budget. His crew was AMAZING - they worked hard from sun up to sun down always with smiles on their faces. They were friendly, polite and most importantly highly skilled in their craft. Ignacio was very knowledgeable explaining issues uncovered during the project and what needed to be done to fix it. (There was rotted wood from our shower leak, plumbing issues, etc. - they fixed and replaced a lot with no additional cost!). Max’s tile work was perfection! Together they are a dream team! At the conclusion of the project, Adir brought in professional cleaners to ensure the home was spotless because I expressed concern over the dust (even though they did cover with plastic) since I have 2 small children. He really listens to his clients and provides individualized customer service. They completed the project in a timely manner with minimal disruptions to our daily lives. I could go on and on about how great our experience was. If you’re looking for a construction company, go with Adir and his crew, you won’t be disappointed!"See more

Megan Reichard says, "It has taken me over two years to write this review. However, the good part is that we have now been enjoying our remodel for years and I can confidently say that we love the job that Anthony did! We hired Anthony to construct an addition, remodel our bathroom, remove our fireplace and replace it with a built-in entertainment center and electric fireplace, and to give our kitchen a "face lift," which included a new island, new countertops, new sink and backsplash. Anthony completed the work on-time (as we walked in from the hospital after having our first child, Anthony was walking out after completing the job) and on budget. The only additional costs were due to change orders that my husband and I initiated. I highly recommend Anthony (and have been recommending him for years) for any of your home construction needs! Please ask Anthony for my information if you have any questions or if you would like to see pictures of his work. :)"See more

Lizette G. says, "About 6 weeks ago, I had my kitchen fully remodeled, and I couldn't be happier with the results! The whole process of my new kitchen transition was super smooth and exceeded my expectations. Before choosing LeCut, I looked at other remodeling companies and consulted with a couple of them (I'm a very picky person). However, what drew me to choosing LeCut is its professionalism and transparency. I met with Michael from LeCut, who came over to my house and took a look at my old kitchen. In the beginning, I did not exactly know how I wanted my kitchen to look other than it being modern. Michael and the design team helped me select my cabinets, counter tops, flooring. This made the material selection process easy and not feel so overwhelming.I had many questions, and Michael answered every last one of them. Some of my answers led to other answers to questions I hadn't asked yet but was going to; it was like Michael was reading my mind to my next question. Lastly, I want to mention that the LeCut construction crew was highly respectful and cautious wearing masks in the house while working during this time of the pandemic. Edgar, the foreman who is the head of the crew, always kept me updated with changes made throughout the kitchen and made sure I was happy with them. Thank you, LeCut Construction! I have received so many compliments of my new kitchen!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

What does a finish carpenter charge per hour?

On average, finish carpenters charge $60 per hour. However, this hourly rate will vary depending on where you live, the scope of the project and other factors. For a more accurate estimate, ask for price quotes from at least three finish carpenters in your area.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.
