I had exactly no yoga experience prior to meeting Jaime. I found Urban Yoga Life and made an inquiry about private lessons. Yoga has since become an integral part of my life.
I was watching a show on Netflix about extraordinary homes a few months. One of the homes in a dessert was brilliant. It had a really beautiful and interesting entry of raised stone platforms. The out of shape but not terribly old host complained and struggled to step from platform to platform. It struck me at that moment that I want to take better care of myself.
I was afraid to go join a random yoga class. I was self-conscious. I feared my lack of flexibility, or maybe even lack of strength (crazy inversions on Instagram) would make me stick out. I was afraid of the complicated poses and movements. I talked with Jaime first on the phone. She has such a warm and encouraging personality, it makes it easy to get excited to start working toward your goals.
From our first session onward, Jaime helped make yoga fun. She clearly communicates and demonstrates what to do. It didn't happen very often because she's so good-- but if I couldn't understand instructions, she'd just figure out another way to say it and I'd get it. I also really like that she starts every personal session by asking what you've been up to and how you're feeling so she can tailor the hour to what you need. She always pushed me just a little further, but I always had confidence that I could trust her and it was never too far. And she never made me chant anything, though she did bring beads :) Such a great teacher.
When Jaime took a little break from teaching, she connected me to another Urban Yoga Life instructor, Rose. Rose is also fantastic. Like Jaime, Rose is technically astute and very clear in her communication. As I've become able to do more, Rose has also helped me with subtle corrections. Learning never stops.
After 6 months of weekly private sessions, I just re-upped. It's the biggest investment I'm making in my own health, but the positive outcomes are incredible. Urban Life Yoga is an incredible team and I would recommend any instructor to anyone, from first-timer to long-timer.
