The chord-based learning method really clicked for me. Learning songs through chords made everything connect. I started seeing how melodies fit inside harmony, and it made it way easier to learn new songs and play by ear. My ear has definitely improved a lot; I can pick up songs faster and understand what I’m hearing now. I honestly feel like a better musician than I was a few months ago, with a much stronger grasp of music theory and how it all works. The group lessons have been great too. They’re supportive and encouraging, and everyone gets a chance to ask questions. Performing for the group felt surprisingly comfortable, it’s a totally judgment-free environment that helped me build confidence. Sean's been my tutor for a year now, and I've been very pleased. We've had one-hour lessons roughly every other week at my apartment where I have a keyboard. My previous experience with a piano was negligible, so we began from scratch. He was completely open to covering nontraditional materials that I was focused on and weaving that into a customized curriculum to meet my personal goals. He's always on time and is prompt when confirming schedule changes. He has a great ear and can quickly look at a piece of music he's never seen before and catch subtle mistakes I've made while playing. As an adult learner, I've had less than ideal time to devote to independent practice, but Sean is patient and encouraging. I always have tons of questions that verge on tangential, but Sean is very knowledgeable and corrects my thoughts when appropriate and relates them to topics we've covered. Overall, highly recommended. I hope to continue our lessons for the foreseeable future.
