- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My typical process for working with a new customer is to first ask for their personal goals. I want to understand if the student wants to play music for themselves, for family, for the purpose of being able to jam and improvise, or the purpose of being able to read sheet music, what motivated them to start piano lessons so that I can keep them motivated through lessons! Since I teach all ages of students and skill levels from beginning to advanced, next I evaluate our beginning point, with various exercises I determine the students current understanding and ability at the keyboard. From there I am able to give proper technique books which will develop a student's ability to read and play music as a beginner, or if they are more intermediate, we can work on personalized repertoire which will challenge the student to understand piano playing and music theory on a deeper level, connecting all the different parts of musicianship to unlock their artistry to a higher level.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have had private classical piano lessons since the age of four. When I was 13 I began studying privately with a professor at my state college, University of Las Vegas, Nevada. I then obtained a scholarship to study at Chicago College of Performing Arts and graduated with my degree in piano performance. I have also taken piano pedagogy courses, early childhood training, and classroom management to supplement my teaching experience.
