Introduction

I bring to lessons an expansive education in music performance, theory, and composition in different styles, as well as the ability to explain and display the necessary skills in a variety of ways for a diversity of learning styles. I teach an aggressive curriculum, but one that is tailored to each student's individual strengths and weaknesses, and I always remain gentle and patient while guiding my students through the rewarding process of learning to create music. I enjoy so much about my work, and here are just a few elements: -Sharing my love for music with those eager to learn the art for themselves. -The moments when the student finds expression the music, transcending the notes as they're written on the page. -Seeing my students perform at their recitals, where they share everything they have learned. -Meeting so many incredible people who are all connected by a love for music!

Sean's been my tutor for a year now, and I've been very pleased. We've had one-hour lessons roughly every other week at my apartment where I have a keyboard. My previous experience with a piano was negligible, so we began from scratch. He was completely open to covering nontraditional materials that I was focused on and weaving that into a customized curriculum to meet my personal goals. He's always on time and is prompt when confirming schedule changes. He has a great ear and can quickly look at a piece of music he's never seen before and catch subtle mistakes I've made while playing. As an adult learner, I've had less than ideal time to devote to independent practice, but Sean is patient and encouraging. I always have tons of questions that verge on tangential, but Sean is very knowledgeable and corrects my thoughts when appropriate and relates them to topics we've covered. Overall, highly recommended. I hope to continue our lessons for the foreseeable future.

Sean and his band provided ideal lively jazz music at a local event. They were super easy to communicate with beforehand, and they played beautifully to a large very appreciative crowd. I strongly recommend them.

working with sean was a great experience. as a beginner adult student, he was always very patient with me and understanding of my busy schedule. i found his lessons to be challenging and informative while at the same time being really fun. he never made learning piano feel like a chore. i learned a lot, not just how to play the piano, but also about music theory--the guy reall knows his stuff! i'd highly recommend sean to anyone at any level and was sad to find out he was leaving the bay area.

Mr. Sean is an excellent music teacher. My son had been learning piano with Mr. Sean for almost a year now and he loved the lessons. I find the teaching style to be very effective and well balanced. Mr. Sean pays close attention to details such as fingering and dynamics of the music. He also encourages my son to play from memory which was a huge step up for him. He also improves on sight reading and music theory. We've gained so much and thank you.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Any studio rental fees are included in the total. The only added expenses students must pay are for the books. I always offer a free half-hour trial lesson.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
One lesson with a new student will let me know what books the student will need. Every lesson typically includes technical exercises, scales, songs that take weeks to learn, and one challenging song that the student wants to play that will take months to learn.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master of Music degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration on music.
