We hired EM Energy & Air to replace a control board on our air handler after a power surge. We also had them replace all of our air ducts, clean and insulate our attic, and relocate our attic access. When they finished the job there were bits of pink Insulation all over the house. I asked them to clean it up. They did a quick vacuuming, but the language barrier caused some confusion. When they left there was still a mess. Insulation and drywall dust all over my sons clothing in his bedroom closet, damage to our newly painted bedroom wall, and bits of insulation all over our house. I spent 2+ hours cleaning after they left. I informed the business owner and he responded by saying "It's a tough job and they had a long week..." The next day he sent a crew to deep clean my sons closet.
Overall, they did good work, but the crew should have a supervisor on site. I appreciate them sending cleaners the next day, but telling a customer that the crew had a long week is an absurd response after leaving a mess and damage, especially after I asked if I should cover anything and being told "We will protect everything".
Solid work. Post job cleanup needs improvement.

The app doesn't allow responses, so I'll respond here:
I don’t manage your calendar. That's out of my hands. Instead of scheduling too many people to be working at the same time you could have been transparent about that from the start and given me an extended ETC. Job site messes happen all the time, when they do they should be cleaned up. The photos that I posted were taken AFTER your crew left, and then I spent 2+ hours of my time cleaning up insulation and drywall dust.

By saying that everything will be protected, you don’t really mean that everything will be protected. It wasn’t even remotely obvious that the closet should have been emptied If it’s best to remove all items from the closet then you should have stated that clearly and unambiguously. The reason I left everything in place like I did is because I explicitly asked you “What do I need to do to prepare? Do you put down floor covering? There will be a bit of a mess with removing old insulation/ducts/droppings.” to which you replied “Nothing. We will protect everything. We can start with creating a new opening in the hallway if you prefer to avoid us working through the closet”
Don’t say you’re going to protect everything, fall flat on that reassurance, and then attempt to push the blame on me by saying “…rather than leaving everything in place like you have.”

The “one person” that I showed my concerns to was the same person who introduced himself when the crew arrived, the same person who asked for clarification on vent placement, and the same person who asked for a check at the end of the day. If he wasn’t the person to address concerns to then who should I have addressed?

I posted a photo of the damage to the wall, (literally a full picture without distortions) and it was indeed easily repaired with no visible damage left. But I’ll add a an important detail. Nobody mentioned the damage, and nobody would have if I didn’t point it out.

Thank you for including your full response in explaining the workers hardship, because it’s worse than the abbreviated version that I posted. I thoroughly appreciate and understand how demanding HVAC work can be as I worked as an HVAC tech for my fathers business for years. As I clearly stated in my review “Solid work. Post job cleanup needs improvement.” Working in attics is tough, and hot. If your crew was weighed down from a long week then you should have given them a few days off and send them to the next job once they’ve recovered. As I also mentioned, overall they did good work, but the crew should have a supervisor on site. I never dismissed the work conditions that your crew works in. I never even suggested it. It’s incredibly hypocritical to say that and then follow it with “it would be good if the exchange you describe is more complete. What I did criticize was your initial response to my complaint of the mess left behind. Instead of responding with excuses, you could have easily responded by saying you’ll send a cleaning crew to take care of the mess left behind

Perhaps you appreciated the fact that I let you know that we all tested positive for Covid before your crew arrived at our house to start the job. Do you remember your response? I certainly do.
“Oh dear. I’m sorry to hear that. I have a big crew en route with a fully loaded truck. It’s thousands of dollars in losses if they turn back. Fortunately they all have 3M masks, and we are well versed in such scenarios as we worked all through Covid. We survived throughout all covered with minimal issues. Can I ask them to wear the masks at all times and proceed? The drywall and furnace repair is all inside so that I will reschedule.”
You then followed up with this:
“Some of the crew now has kids that they didn’t have before so the risk assessment is different. So we will reschedule when you feel better. We will still fix the furnace so that you can have AC while you’re getting better. Keep me posted.”
So please don’t claim that you’re well versed in such scenarios as you worked all through Covid, send your crew home because they now have different risk assessment, and then attempt to lay guilt on me saying “…we didn’t charge you a dime for it, like most business would. Sending your crew home was 100% your call. We were home, and if you actually were well versed in such scenarios, you wouldn’t have sent your crew home.
If you going respond to criticism from customers that you interact with, it would be good if the exchange you describe is more complete.

Just to clarify, I specifically mentioned in my post that you sent a cleaning crew the following day (addressing the failures) and that it was appreciated. Prior to that I mentioned the failures. How does one go about addressing a failure without mentioning the failure?
Bottom line is Thumbtack asked for my review. I responded honestly. I shared my criticism along with photos, and I also ended my review with “Solid work. Post job cleanup needs improvement.” That’s accurate. What your response tells me is that you do not want any critical reviews.
