What is the best waterproof flooring for a basement?
There are several great options for waterproof basement flooring. For example, epoxy floors are waterproof but are thicker and sturdier than paint. Make sure the concrete substrate has been prepared for application.
Tile is a designer’s dream, giving you a moisture-resistant surface that’s infinitely customizable. Rubber sheets or tiles are also good waterproof options, particularly for playrooms, workout areas or laundry rooms.
Vinyl tiles and planks imitate wood or other materials very convincingly, provide moisture resistance and last a long time. And sheet vinyl is affordable and a great waterproofing solution for those in need of quick fixes.

I found Kevin and his team through thumbtack to finish my parents basement. They did an amazing job! They always communicated when they were coming, and it got finished in the time they were told. My parents love their basement and recommend Thor Development to everyone. We plan to hire them when we finish our own basement.

WARNING: At least nine (9) of the 5-star reviews posted on Thumbtack for Utah Basements are entirely fake and posted by employees of Utah Basements to artificially inflate their customer satisfaction score. Per Thumbtack, a contractor is allowed to have up to ten (10) unverified reviews. Notice how almost all unverified reviews (do not have a Thumbtack shield) are 5-star and provide little if any info about the project. They read like marketing pitches. They are also posting fake reviews on other websites as well.
On June 27, 2023 we signed a contract with Utah Basements to have them finish our unfinished basement. Per the contract, the project was to be completed within 8-12 weeks. Contract amount: $32000. We have paid $25620, or 75% of the total estimated project cost. They say we still owe $3670 since the trim work is now complete. The basement is maybe 40% done, and the trim work is anything but complete! It is godawful. It all needs torn out.
Work began on July 5, 2023. It is now October 23, 2023. It has been 15 weeks and 5 days since work began. The basement is still not finished and the work they have done is beyond unacceptable. There have been three failed inspections, mostly for electrical fire hazards and plumbing. The sheetrock work, the baseboard and door trim, and even the doors themselves...it's beyond words how bad the quality of work is. Over the course of the past six weeks, we have invited UT Basements over no less than four times to show them how bad the work is and to ask them to have it done properly and to professional standards. Each time they said, "No problem. We'll take care of this." Last month, after the horrendous sheetrock and painting job, they said we'll send over our "two best guys" to get all of this fixed. Their two best guys only made matters worse by doing the most amateurish job EVER painting and installing the doors and trim. It looks like the work of a blind 5-year-old child with no arms.
Last week was the final straw. They sent ONE guy over on Monday at 3:30pm in the afternoon to fix electrical problems, plumbing problems, trim problems, door problems, and vanity install problems. This one guy, who appeared to be 20 years old, could barely speak English was supposed to fix ALL of those problems in two hours. It takes years of experience and on-the-job training to do any of those tasks with any level of skill or efficiency. We told him he could leave. We were not letting anyone else from Utah Basements touch our house. Every time they send someone over things only get worse.
On Tuesday, October 17, 2023 I went to the offices of Utah Basements in Lehi to confront their Director of Operations, Ricardo Sanchez. BTW, everyone of these UT Basements have given themselves titles of Director of this or that. They are all in the 20's and 30's. Directors? Really? Anyway, I filmed the entire conversation. I explained to him how unacceptable the work was and presented him with many photos proving my point. On tape, he readily admits the quality is unacceptable. He says they will fix it. I told Ricardo we've heard that over and over from them and it never happens. Rarely anything ever gets fixed. I then presented him with our only option to make things right and get the job done correctly...we will personally vet and hire other subcontractors to come in and fix the disaster Utah Basements has created and Utah Basements will pay for it. Later on that evening, we received an email from Ricardo stating that was not an option.
Three of them came over the next morning making the usual excuses. The three were Marcos Alves, Ricardo Sanchez, and Johnny Borges. Not only were they making excuses and false promises, they then had the balls to ask for final payment. I told them they could get the F out of my house. Much of their work needs torn out and redone correctly. Bids received from other contractors to fix the mess they created now total close to $10k. Oh, to top it all off, we then received an email from Ricardo stating that if we didn’t make the last payment they would put a lien on our house. Can you believe these guys??
The photos I'm sharing are actual examples of "Completed Work" according to Utah Basements.
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT HIRE Utah Basements. They are liars, thieves, and frauds.
