Update:
This makes me sad to write, but I didn't want to leave a review stating we would hire them again. Basically, we would hire the first experience again but not the subsequent ones.
Unreliable service, poor and disingenuous communication from JB which got worse and worse over the past half year.
Led to bait-n-switch issues that had to be resolved unsatisfactorily after the fact. They often showed up late without communication, and sometimes we had to cancel and do our work to have it done in time.
We bent over backwards to help with the labor ourselves, to not insist on problems being fixed immediately, to allow several texts to go unanswered, to give them the benefit of the doubt, and to compliment and compensate hard work, and to look for ways to make it worth their while to come out and work.
Tried biweekly mowing, which worked for a while but the schedule was not always adhered to and the crew mowed in a haphazard non-uniform way crossing the yard and making it look like a pouting teenager had mowed it. I did get them to stop this, but it further reduced our trust in their work.
JB sent a crew out without proper tools for fall pruning which made everything take longer and then we noticed within the week that whole sides or tops of trees were missed and shrubs were crooked.
We tried to just be easygoing about it and get it fixed on the next visit - once we finally got that scheduled, JB still left before it was fixed, after twice agreeing to fix it, refused to come back or even pick up the phone, and then dictated a lower price so he wouldn't have to come back. He did this knowing he was leaving us in the lurch while the neighbors were putting their house on the market and open to showings and public open houses.
JB's demeanor was unfriendly and unsmiling; apart from that quality, he showed he was not concerned with client satisfaction or with quality standards.
Our initial experience with them, that was more positive, was with JB's more affable brother, Julio, and crew. They completed an onsite quote within an hour, and large bed cleanup and mulch project with less than 24 hours notice. They provided mulch and pine straw delivery, arrived early, and labored all day through 90 degree heat. That crew was hardworking, professional, and well-equipped with tools and sufficient hauling capacity for plant debris removal.
We did have to be out in the yard working with them, and they did attempt to leave with quite a bit of our prepaid triple shred mulch in the trailer without telling us. When I noticed it, Julio innocently said, 'Oh, did you want us to spread that too?'
Well, yes?
I still paid every crew member a large tip that day because it had been so hot and I wanted them to leave happy.
We were good customers, and JB lost this account by being unreachable, unreliable, defensive, and difficult.
