Update: Z Plumberz contacted us and refunded us $250, bringing the total down to $175, i.e. what we expected. They said they're a new company and still learning. Huge props for that, it's great to see a company that listens to its customers and is willing to take steps to rectify things. We'd totally hire them again! ❤️

We used Z Plumberz for a clogged kitchen sink, on a Saturday. They were available on the same day, and Shane arrived in our flat within a few hours, which was nice. He was very careful not to make a mess, which we appreciated. He did eventually resolve our clog, but we ended up paying $425 for 50 minutes of work in our apartment, only about 10-15 of which was spent actually unclogging the drain. The rest of the time he was out getting a replacement part for a valve that he broke or applying various fixes to said valve. Their rate is $175 for the first 30 minutes, $295 for one hour, and $250/hour after that, so we absolutely did not expect to pay for 1.5 hour of work to unclog a drain!
More details:
First, he tried the short snake but it didn't find a clog within 30ft.
Then he unscrewed the valve for the trap and he said it snapped. He went to his car and got plumbers tape and glue but that did not work, the pipe would leak. He spent about 10 billable minutes on that, even though it seemed fairly obvious to us that it wouldn't work. He then said he needed to get a new part. I asked if we would be charged for the time he was out getting the part, he said no. 40 minutes passed, then he came back with a larger snake, and the new part. The larger snake resolved the clog (which was apparently 50ft down), and the part worked. Then it was time to pay, and we were shocked to hear a total of $425. We asked why we were being billed for the time he was out, he said that we misunderstood and he meant we wouldn't be charged for the part. I think it's pretty unfair to charge us for time he was out and about, especially for a part that broke under his handling. It's a shame; it would have been a great experience if we were not overcharged like that. Now if we ever have a plumbing issue again, we'll need to hire someone else.
