I sent my comments in a text but did not receive a response.
I gave her 2 stars because she was there on time and she is very sweet but still a novice.
The event was a Memorial Balloon Release for a baby.
These were my comments to the photographer in a private text message:
When doing an event like this, there is no redo so you have to be cognizant to take pictures of every guest and every detail. Candid shots are important as well as shots with the guest of honor with their guests. Don’t miss the details. You took a picture of the dessert table and a close up with your lens of the baby shoes but no close up of the cookies that had his name, in remembrance, balloons with tassels, the number 1 balloon, balloons tied with and wings, cupcakes with Baby Alex picks and fondant Angel wings. If a tablecloth is disheveled, straighten it out before you capture the centerpiece. The candle box, candle, and prayer card should have been captured. The label on the gable box was captured but feel free to capture the entire box and its content. We have a picture of white balloons floating in the sky but not the gold letters A L E X or the #1 which was a beautiful site. All these things are important because Baby Alex’s mom was in the moment but didn’t take any pictures because she expected to have photos to go back to, to encompass the day. 27 photos are not enough photos to get the feeling of being there. In my 20+ years of planning events and hiring photographers, I have never received less than 110 pictures. To be honest, I feel like you overcharged me for what we actually received. Had I not asked for the group photos, what would we have? What happened while I was gone? Her Uncle Curtis was there but there are no photos of him. Baby Alex’s Godmother and Godsister were there and there are no photos of them. Baby Alex’s mom is sad because she did not get to see all of her baby’s cookies because she figured she would be able to look back on her pictures once everything settled down.
I wanted to share our honest feedback because I want you to be successful when you are entrusted to capture photos of someone else’s special event where there is only one opportunity to get it right.
I hope you understand the opportunities to improve that I presented as you continue to charge people for a service.
