Rae V. says, "Leo was great at answering my questions; however we may have gotten a novice bartender. The head of this company was awesome and there is great value given the amount of mixes they provide, but we didn't get the pleasure of working with Leo specifically. For the actual wedding & the staff we were given: They were also provided a longer set up time of 2:30-4:30 to prep for cocktail hour and serving at 5PM, but guests complained about the long wait times due to one of the staff continuing to set up during cocktail hour and only having one bartender to cater to 150 guests. Our cocktail hour started late too =___= Usually a bartender knows when to cut people off for a wedding, but they were pouring 5-6 shots for a single person upon request. They also were continuing to pour drinks for people who were clearly past their limit. Thankful for the hard stop at 10PM. There were a few complaints of the mango margaritas being too strong and not drinkable, but we bought a ready to pour mix that you just put over ice; however, the bartender still poured in 2 more shots of tequila to mix in. I think she may have been new. Bartending a wedding is difficult and demanding, and they handled it with grace. I think more communication and regulation may have been nice moving forward. Would definitely hire again for a birthday party or something a little less formal."See more

Irene B. says, "Ashley and Jason were absolutely amazing mobile bartenders. I worked Ashley via text months in advance. She was able to provide me with all the permits the venue requested within minutes. She always responded to my questions within minutes and treated me like a friend. She was fantastic!! Ashley and Jason owned that kitchen when they arrived at the venue. I gave them a quick cruise of the industrial kitchen they had access to, and they totally took it from there. They created a cute, custom drink, totally off the cuff, and guests loved it!  I had about 100 guests and never saw the line more than four at a time. They hustled!! They cleaned up their workspace. Boxed up all the leftover bottles and plasticware, took great care of all our guests, and even made coffee using the venues provided coffee maker. I will definitely recommend The Bar Socialites to any of my friends and family for future parties."See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a bartender for a private party?

Hiring a bartender for a private party typically costs between $270 and $390 in total. On an hourly basis, expect to pay at least $40 to $60 per hour, as well as a flat fee. How much you’ll pay, however, depends on the time of year or day, the size of the party and other factors. Get in touch with a few bartenders near you and request a free estimate — it’s the only way to get an accurate idea of how much private bartending services will cost you.

Do bartenders need to be licensed?

Certain counties, cities and states may require licensing. Check your local government’s regulations before starting your search.

In many cases, you might want to choose a bartender who has a license and/or certification. If you’re considering hiring a bartender for an upcoming event or a special occasional, check their online profiles to find out what credentials they have. If you can’t find the information online, don’t hesitate to ask them directly when requesting to receive free estimates.

How do I find a good bartender?

Put some time on your calendar to research and compare top-rated bartenders near you online. Start by looking at their ratings and services. For example, some bartending services will provide a waitstaff, glassware, ice, coolers, food and more.

Next, look at their photos of past events and read the customer reviews. Find feedback on the bartenders’ services. Did they offer fair pricing? Did they show up on time to set up? Did they bring all of the appropriate drinks, cups, supplies and decorations? Did they interact politely with the party guests and provide a pleasant overall experience? And did they do the agreed-upon cleanup afterward?

Narrow down your top choices, and start contacting the bartenders. Ask for cost estimates for your event, and tell them how many people will be attending, what type of event it is and what services you require. You should also ask them questions about their experience.

Bartenders may need a license in your state, county or city to work at a private party. Make sure they’re properly certified before you hire anyone.
