I have had several weekly lessons with Héctor so far and am very impressed. Héctor is very encouraging, tailors his lessons to my needs and balances playing the piano with music theory and rhythm development amazingly well.
As an adult learner and a complete beginner with no knowledge of music theory or playing an instrument; I can see a marked improvement from lesson to lesson. Pieces I looked at weeks ago, now make perfect sense.
I would highly recommend Héctor and look forward to each lesson.

I decided to learn how to play piano for the first time at age 24 and Sally has been an excellent first teacher. There are several things that I think she has done well, but I think the most important thing has been that she has helped to foster and inspire my enjoyment of playing piano. Sally obviously loves playing the piano herself and that has definitely passed onto me during our lessons. I started playing piano on a whim several months ago and I'm even more excited now about learning and practicing than I was when I started and I think that speaks a lot to how good Sally has been as a teacher.
The other aspect I've really appreciated is that Sally has been very responsive and aware of my goals and has challenged me in exactly the right ways. I feel like I've learned far more than I ever expected to in my first 5 months of playing. There were several times Sally gave me scores to learn that I thought were going to be too challenging for me, when in fact they really pushed me to improve quickly and increased my enjoyment of playing/practicing.
Finally, the little things. Sally has been very easy to communicate with and flexible with lessons. We have never had a miscommunication about lesson time/location and she has been very flexible when I haven't been able to do our standard times.
Overall, I've really enjoyed my five months learning how to play the piano from Sally and I would 100% recommend her to any other person looking to learn how to play piano for the first time or improve on their existing skills.

Hiroko is an exceptional piano teacher. I learned and played piano at a young age until I went to college. After not playing for nearly 25 years, I wanted to play again and found Hiroko on Thumbtack. It is difficult to express how she has reinvigorated my joy and love for the piano. To my surprise, Hiroko brought my piano skills back to nearly where I left it and I have enjoyed playing Mozart sonatas and discovered Bach and other classical wonders since we began playing together six months ago. For me, Hiroko has been a treasure as not only a piano teacher but akin to a musical therapist? I feel so calm and happy at the end of a lesson due to the progress we make, the music played together, and learning a bit of theory and interpreting various pieces. For those who love music, you know it is a wonderful thing when you find someone to click with and play music together.

I've had a few pianolessons with Julia so far and I have nothing but good things to say! As someone who works full-time, I needed a teacher who could accommodate my busy schedule as well as being reasonably priced. Also, being 24 years old while basically starting to learn the piano from scratch, it was important I found a teacher that wouldn't treat me like a child when going through the basics.
I was lucky to find all of these qualities in Julia! She does a great job of explaining things clearly, slowing down when something is difficult, and challenging you when you get the hang of things. In addition to being an incredibly accomplished musician, she is also a very friendly individual that is sure to make anyone feel welcome and comfortable.
I look forward to our lessons every week and I highly recommend her for anyone in need of a fantastic piano teacher!

Julia has exceeded all of my expectations as a piano teacher.
Prior to taking lessons from her I had some experience as a child, and she quickly brought me back up to speed. Between sight reading, finger exercises, ear training and theory with each piece I I have grown immensely because of her training.
Each lesson Julia is prepared with brief lessons and/or quizzes me on what we went over previously. She quickly learned my style of learning and always helps me get through any difficulties, speed, fingering, key changes.. etc I am having with any piece.
She is fun, light hearted, and a joy to be around. Julia is a patient instructor and has been very accommodating to my inconsistent schedule. I would highly recommend Julia to any player of any skill level. Her deep understanding of piano juxtaposed with her energy are qualities she has that enable her to instruct the advancement of any player!

I'm mostly self-taught and had reached a point where I felt lessons were the next step in my progression as a pianist. I interviewed several piano instructors, both virtually and in-person, and although I am in the Washington, DC area and Matt is in LA, I selected Matt because he has a teaching style that I found to be the perfect balance between structure and creativity. I've found Matt to be patient with a great sense of humor, and, most importantly, through Matt's instruction I feel like I have learned a lot in a relatively short amount of time. I haven't found virtual lessons to be a hinderance to learning and would highly recommend Matt to anyone who is looking for a great instructor!

My teenage daughter started lessons with Ms. Hiroko about a year ago, after her former teacher quit teaching in the early days of the pandemic. We were so happy to have found Ms. Hiroko. She’s a wonderful teacher, so thoughtful and kind, and very invested in the development of her students. In the past year, we’ve been through the ups and downs of the pandemic, we’ve dealt with the Delta surge and the Omicron surge. Through it all, Ms. Hiroko has been cheerful, respectful, flexible, and so patient with finding the right music for a budding young artist. She always teaches with her mask on. She has been quick to switch between zoom and in-person lessons to adapt to the rising cases. My daughter thought we had found the perfect teacher. She convinced a really good friend to join the studio earlier on. Both girls have been enjoying taking lessons with Ms. Hiroko, and they just had a lovely recital with the other students this past Sunday. It was so nice for Ms. Hiroko to put together such a wonderful recital at the Lyceum for her students. She worked so hard to prepare for it. If you’re looking for a piano teacher, look no further. Ms. Hiroko is the best in the Arlington/Falls Church area. Thank you, Hiroko-san!
