Jessica Jean says, "My husband and I bought an older house that we knew we would need a new front door and windows because they were the originals when the house was built. When we had the money ready for this endeavor, we set out to find the right place to do the job. Some places had good products but bad service, others had bad service but good products. It was hard to decide who to choose.Eventually, Elias came to pitch his sale for GES. He is personable and quite friendly, though he did stay for about 2 hours. My biggest qualm is that it was very "sales-y". He tested in house the doors and windows comparing their product with others on the market. After the sales pitch, it was "Hey, I can give you a discount if you do x,y,z." Then you get the final price which he pushes you to sign. If you don't, he calls his "boss" and they negotiate a lower price. My suggestion is to not sign at the time of the visit, because we waited and once Elias left a woman who deals with the "financial" side of the business said she could give us a cheaper offer. Here we were able to negotiate a better price and knocked over $7000 off of the original price. The installation of 9 windows took about a full day of work just to install the windows but had to come back the next day just to deal with the fascia. They only sent out one guy to do all of the windows and fascia. The door was installed a few days later, which was also done by one guy. I feel that production might be quicker and more efficient with a few man crew. During installation, the timing was often off which was an inconvenience when working from home and having to put away animals.Overall, we are very happy with the results. The windows have been very helpful with keeping the house cool during the brutal heat. The new front door looks amazing!! Because of the great products, I would recommend GES. Just be aware of the sales side of this and know how to negotiate.Although I did receive financial compensation for this review, it is an honest review."See more

Richard Sable says, "We were planning to remodel our two bathrooms, and RPK Construction was recommended to us by Laura from Bucks Signature Kitchens and Flooring in Langhorne. Rob from RPK met us and reviewed our desired plans for the rooms along with us explaining that one of the bathroom walls had a tile failure and caved in and tiles fell from the wall. Rob assured us that RPK can repair the damage from this failure.Rob introduced us to Kamil, our project manager. Kamil reviewed our plans and project details and Kamil outlined the plans for our project, and he ordered all the necessary building supplies. Kamil introduced us to Jeremy (Yaroslav) our primary contractor, and Jermeys workmanship is outstanding. Jeremey is incredibly detailed, and he even suggested some designs for the master bath tile work and niche. The second bathroom revealed the water damage, and Rob reviewed the damage and their plan along with the additional costs which were both manageable and fair for the additional work. Because of the leak behind the wall, we expected this for this bathroom. Jeremey needed to replace flooring, studs, and the insulation. Another team removed the siding and replaced the outer wall with plywood. Both bathrooms look beautiful, and we are very satisfied with RPKs workmanship. All staff are very friendly, they clean up after each workday, and they store their tools and supplies daily.Because the first bathrooms looked great, we hired RPK to replace all the flooring on the second floor before they finished the second bathroom: replace the doors and paint the entire upstairs and foyer. Additionally, RPK built a new staircase for our home and installed a handrail to code. With the extensive painting, Roman entered the project and painted the entire house with a detail to perfection. All the rooms, doors, and new molding were painted to our specifications. Our upstairs looks like a new home. Many thanks to RPK Construction and our entire RPK team consisting of Rob, Kamil, Jeremey (Yaroslav), Roman and others. I highly recommend RPK for their workmanship and fair pricing, and Ill be using them in the future for other projects around our house. I highly recommend RPK Construction for your project or repair."See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does a metal roof cost?

On average, replacing your roof with a metal roof will cost between $4,400 and $8,750. The actual cost you pay will depend on the roof’s size, the type of metal, the pitch of the roof and more. If the subroofing requires repair, the roofer will need to perform those repairs before overlaying the metal sheeting.

Where you live also has a significant effect on metal roof costs. To find out how much it will cost to install a metal roof on your house, get cost estimates from roofers near you.

How long does a metal roof last?

A metal roof is one of the longest-lasting and lowest-maintenance roofing choices available. You can expect it to last between 40 and 80 years. The actual number will vary depending on the climate you live in, which has a dramatic impact on the condition of your roof. Your level of maintenance also affects the longevity of your roofing surface — keeping it clean and free of debris extends its lifetime. Read our guide on how to maintain your roof for more tips.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a metal roof?

Metal roofs are beautiful, durable, energy-efficient and long-lasting. They can also be significantly more expensive than asphalt shingles — particularly when installing a standing seam metal roof. But because they can last 40-80 years and potentially lower energy costs, they can be worth the investment.

How do you choose a metal roof color?

Choose the color of your metal roof based on your house’s aesthetics and the overall look you want. The color of your siding, window shutters, windows, surrounding landscape and even the roof on your neighbor’s house may all affect your decision.

Metal roofs will hold their color for many years. Whether you choose a “natural” galvanized roof or go with a red, blue, green or other colors, it will give your house a unique look for years to come.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof is a durable, watertight roofing design that features long metal panels running from the ridge to the eave of your house. The metal panels have “seams” or ridges that run from top to bottom with a wide flat area between them.

If you’re interested in installing a standing seam metal roof, start requesting price estimates from local roofers.

Is it worth it to hire a roofer?

There are several reasons why it’s worth it to hire a professional roofer instead of attempting it yourself. The first is safety. Roofing is inherently dangerous, as a fall from a roof could seriously injure or kill you. Roofers have specialized equipment and training to help prevent accidents.

Next is experience. Roofers know how to spot problems (leaks, missing shingles, moss or mold growth, etc.)  in your roof that could potentially save you from costly repairs down the road.

And finally, roofers save you time by getting the job done quickly and with a high degree of quality.

How do you know when you need a new roof?

Some of the signs that indicate you need a new roof include cupping, warping and peeling asphalt shingles, as well as cracks on certain shingles. Other warning signs may include:

  • Leakage
  • Exposed nails
  • Missing granules
  • Droopy, sagging roof
  • Moss, mold or fungi growth

A metal roof may need to be replaced when it grows rusty and begins leaking. Tile roofs made of clay, slate or concrete need repairs when cracked. Cleaning and inspecting the roof regularly can help prevent major damage from occurring.

Contact the best roofers near you to inspect, repair or replace your roof.

Do you tip roofers?

It’s not customary or required to tip roofers. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t tip, but it is generally not expected. If you do decide to tip, you can give the tip to the foreman or distribute it yourself.

Another idea to show your appreciation is to surprise the crew with coffee, water, snacks, breakfast or lunch when they arrive at the worksite.

How do I choose the best roofing contractor?

Choosing a roofer starts by reading reviews online. Compare customer ratings of roofing contractors and companies to identify pros with a good track record of craftsmanship and customer relations. Some reviews may also have photos of completed roofing jobs.

Many states require a license for someone to do roofing work, so make sure the companies you’re considered are licensed. Also, look for contractors and companies with several years of experience.

Before you make your final choice, contact several roofers near you to get free estimates and quotes. Ultimately, choose the roofer that will do high-quality work for a reasonable price.

Does homeowners insurance cover roof replacement?

Homeowners insurance generally covers roof replacement if the roof is damaged by a natural disaster or a sudden accident, according to Investopedia. However, insurance companies often won’t cover roof replacement costs if the roof is older than 20 years. Read your insurance policy to find out what types of roof repairs or damages are covered.
