I'm pretty cautious of companies that won't do even ballpark quotes before seeing the space, even with clear descriptions and photos of the issue. I just hate the sales tactics most of those companies deploy. On that note, I was a little worried about working with North Ohio Sewer & Drain. However, they are probably the best service I've ever had come to help in all our years of home ownership.
We wanted a pretty straight forward whole home filter install, where we had already purchased the system and just needed install, piping, and shut off valves. Since they also specialize in sewer lines / clogging, we also asked them to look into a drainage issue on the line our washing machine is connected to.
Justin was sent out and this man is top of his game. He was incredibly professional, informative, and very pleasant to work with. He evaluated the setup and had one minor suggested tweak to the whole home filter setup based on a shortcut a previous plumber had made while installing a water heater. The pricing he quoted was on par with other quotes we had, but the value really came in the expertise. I've attached a photo of the final install, which is exactly what we wanted, with an added tank to prevent pressure and potential backflow issues.
The real value came from his assessment of the blockage in our basement drain. After finding a failed storm drain from one of our gutters which was causing dirt to wash into the line and clog things up, he ran a camera through all storm and sewer lines from our home and identified a handful of other issues. He identified another break but more importantly found that our main combined sewer & storm line (which are no longer allowed but is grandfathered in due to the age of the home) is separating and on the verge of complete failure.
He provided us with loads of information, options, and price ranges to assess the problem. He made it clear that this is a failure that could be days away or years, but in all likelihood it would fail while we lived here and will flood our basement (potentially with sewer backwash as well). Despite presenting us with a problem that will easily cost in the 5 digits to fix, he left us feeling very informed and aware of the issue at hand. He also made it clear that once we inform the city that work is to be done on our combined sewer & storm drain, there will be a requirement from Lakewood to upgrade and separate the lines within a certain timeframe.
While we're not excited to be taking on this new project, we feel very comfortable booking North Ohio Sewer & Drain to complete it based on the care and information that Justin provided.
