Looking for a headshot photographer can be a challenge in NYC, luckily I came across Steven via Thumbtack. I worked with Tina when I needed new headshots for my website. She was really great to work with! First, I talked to her on the phone and told her what I was envisioning. Because she has worked on many types of photoshoots, she was able to bring creativity and experience to our session. For the actual date of the shoot, she arrived early and we talked through my preferred shot list. If I was unsure of anything, she was able to direct me to make a decision on what kinds of shots I should get. The entire session lasted around 2 hours and within 24 hours, she sent me 200+ photos to select from. I was very impressed with her quick turnaround. I went through the photos and selected a handful and she came back to me within one business day with my options retouched. Overall, I would highly recommend working with Tina. She gets a 10 in my book for professionalism, creativity and punctuality.

Several professional announcements were coming up, and I needed new headshots to reflect how I look today versus five years ago and more reflective of me and my personality. Thankfully, I met Dorothy Shi. Simply put, Dorothy is an excellent photographer. I had the most wonderful experience getting my headshots with her - she's a complete pro. Dorothy has been in the business for 20+ years and had the highest ratings, reviews, and testimonials on all social media and SEO sites, including Google, Thumbtack, and Yelp!
We had an intake session over the phone in advance to discuss what I was trying to capture. We discussed the type of setting, backdrops, outfits, and what kind of look I wanted the headshot to convey. Dorothy actively listened and then made suggestions and recommendations on what may enhance the look I was going for. I had not considered these ideas, but a professional like herself would know.
In addition to Dorothy's fantastic photography skills, her approach and personality created a comfortable atmosphere, and her experience shined with the many poses she had me go into. Since I needed to showcase different looks, at no time did I feel rushed or that changing my hair and outfit would impede the experience. Dorothy also would stop and show me what was working and which poses I could do better. She gave clear, concise directions and all the patience I needed until I got it right. Dorothy offered water and gave time for hair and makeup touch-ups. Her turn-around time was faster than other photographers offered (24-48 hours), and there were more photos than expected. It made it easier to ensure the look I was going for was captured.
I highly recommend Dorothy Shi and will keep her on speed dial and will recommend her whenever anyone is looking for a photographer.
