Melody is a great Chinese tutor! I've been studying Mandarin with her to improve my speaking ability, and she is really helping me a lot. She makes the lessons interesting and engaging, tailored to my interests, and pushes me to speak more, which is what I need most. I’ll start by saying, I never review anything. I made an exception because of how life changing this is for me.
I have been working with Christina for a couple weeks now- speaking zero Mandarin prior. Being older, having no knowledge of the subject, using online learning for the first time, and not having taken a school-like class in years, I was very apprehensive about getting started. (It actually took me months to pull the trigger and put in a request for more information).
Christina was quick to respond. I am not the kind of person to just say “Yes! Sign me up!” I am notorious at saying “let me think about it”- which turns into days/weeks/months/years/or never. Something about Christina made me feel like this was the right thing for me. So in an out of character move, I said yes, and booked a class.
I was so nervous and stressed about everything. I am a very self conscious person. Needless to say, I had a lot of anxiety about completely butchering a language I know absolutely nothing about- especially in front of a complete stranger. Immediately, Christina put my mind at ease. She brought a very friendly and warm atmosphere to the class. I never feel intimidated or stupid. She guides me through the classes in a way that makes it enjoyable. The time really goes quick.
She tailors the class to my specific style of learning. I am slow to pick things up- I need to be shown how to do things and go back on my own and review. Christina does not beat me over the head trying to get me to understand right in that moment. Furthermore, I do not have to waste a ton of time writing down notes. Christina takes audio recordings of the important parts of the lessons which she wants me to review. She supplements that with word documents and other “hand outs” used during the lesson. After class, she sends me the audio recordings (usually 3-10 minutes long) as well as the other documents. The short recordings are perfect! I can listen to them over and over without having to sift through an hour long lecture. I’m “doing homework” while completing my everyday tasks- cooking, cleaning, driving, walking the dog, etc.
I could not ask for a better teacher- warm, compassionate, and knowledgeable. She is very flexible in booking dates/times. The price is very good. I could not recommend her more.
