While Fred was great the couple of times I talked to him on the phone, and the work done by his team is great, my experience with Madrid was subpar at best. I hired Madrid to remove the popcorn texture, refinish & paint my kitchen ceiling. Over the course of two months, scheduled appointments were either rescheduled day-of or completely blown off/ghosted 5 times. After cancelling on me, I would have to reach out repeatedly to get them to schedule a new time to come work on the ceiling - sometimes not hearing from them for weeks until I sent a reminder.
Because the final result was so well done, despite the difficulty in communication/reliability (and being charged an additional fee for paint despite that not being in the contract), I asked them to quote refinishing the ceiling for the rest of the entire house. Shockingly, I never heard back with the quote.
EDIT: for reference, the timeline went:
3/24 - scheduled popcornremoval for 4/9
4/1 - I had a personal conflict come up and reached out to see about rescheduling until 4/16, did not hear back from them until I reached out on 4/6 for confirmation
4/15 - I message on thumbtack to find out what time they will be coming by the next day, no response
4/16 - I call around 1030am to find out what time they'll be by, Fred contacts his employee and eventually I'm told that they won't be coming because their dad came in to town and he mixed up his schedule. We reschedule for the next weekend for 4/23 at 7:30am
4/23 - I get a call late in the morning that he actually cannot come by that day because he has his daughter's baptism and again mixed up his schedule, reschedule for 4/29
4/29 - they remove texture and plan on coming back the next week to paint
5/2 - I reach out because my ceiling had a leak above the kitchen from the massive storm we had that weekend and ask if they think we should wait to paint until the leak is fixed. They confirm we should wait and I'll let them know when it's fixed
5/6 - roof is fixed, I let them know my schedule and am told they'll let me know when they can come out next week
5/19 - I reach out to check in on when they can schedule me, am told they'll get back to me later that day
5/24 - I reach out to check in again on getting scheduled, am told they will come out Thurs 5/26
5/26 - am told they actually cannot come out this day and ask to come out the next morning. Does not work for me, as I was going out of town and we schedule for Thursday 6/2
6/1 - I reach out to confirm we are still on for 6/2, am told they need to push it back to Fri 6/3
6/3-6/6 - work is finally finished over the course of these 3 days
While I did reschedule twice, the first was with more than a weeks notice and the second was due to an unexpected leak and I checked in with them well ahead of our appointment for their advice on how to proceed. I was very responsive to calls and texts, and am unsure why Madrid believes otherwise. As for the additional $20 paint charge, to my knowledge I did not add anything outside of the contract (which states "removepopcorn texture, smooth/skim coat, ceiling repair tape and mud, paint kitchen ceiling - this includes material and labor"). If I'm misinformed and they did something additional, I was not made aware. I really am disappointed in my experience working with Madrid despite the quality of the work, and moreso in their response.
