Patricia B. says, "I can't say enough good things about these guys. Last year we had some people do a terrible job building a concrete plinth, meant to hold a concrete sculpture, in our yard. The work was neither square nor level, completely unusable. But we discovered it was going to cost a fortune to have it torn out and rebuilt. So we conceived a plan to basically build a wall around the crooked plinth to hide its awfulness but take advantage of its central support. Because I'd been burned by these other guys, I was really nervous that someone else would come in and burn us, too. I needn't have worried! Andrii gave a very competitive bid. He understood what we wanted to do (others hadn't) and did an amazing job bringing the plan to fruition. He had a worker put in a deep, perfectly square foundation (others were going to go shallow) around the crooked plinth, then, when that had cured, came out with three more workers to carefully formulate a plan of action for building the wall. I was nervous because we had a limited number of breezeblocks to work with, but they didn't waste a single one. I was heartened to see how often they measured and checked the level throughout the process. They were finished in one day. Today Andrii came with another worker and put on the cast stone cap to finish the job. (Others had offered no plan at all for finishing the top.) Everything is perfectly square and level, which was SO important to me. In a few days we should be able to have the sculpture moved into place at last. (They also did a great job cleaning up after themselves.) Our experience with SVH was perfect, and we've already requested estimates for some other masonry work we need to have done. SVH will definitely be the first ones we call whenever we need any kind of concrete or masonry work done in the future."See more

Can you put a fireplace in a house that doesn't have one?

Yes, you can often put a fireplace in a house that doesn’t have one. An exception to this is if your house doesn’t have a safe place for a fireplace, or if your city or town doesn’t allow fireplaces (or specific types of fireplaces).

Can you install a fireplace without a chimney?

Yes, you can consider installing a ventless gas fireplace, which doesn’t require a chimney or flues. However, you’ll need to make sure these are allowed where you live. Contact fireplace installation pros near you to find out if a ventless fireplace is right for you and (if so) get free cost estimates.

Does a fireplace add value to a house?

A fireplace may or may not add value to your house — it depends on the prospective homeowner and the trends in your real estate market. Many people find fireplaces desirable, but you’ll need to talk to your real estate agent (or an expert) to find out if homebuyers in your area will pay more for a fireplace or if you’ll recoup the costs.
