I originally hired Dan to help me and my husband with marriage counseling. We had about 5-6+ sessions together before Dan started talking to my husband individually, and has helped my husband gain the clarity and purpose necessary to walk out on his 2nd wife and 2nd set of kids, and apparently "feel great" about it.
It's not a good feeling to question the loyalty of the therapist you hired to help you as a couple. I question whether it is fair for him to have seen us both and now only see him. I think this blurs some important lines and ultimately don't feel that Dan helped me in my goal of helping to keep my marriage together.
Ultimately my husband is the problem, but I think Dan could have acted more professionally when it became clear that he was not going to be able to serve the original interest that he was hired for.
I feel betrayed by the person I hired to help me. I'm glad my husband is so happy with Dan as a therapist, but that is not what Dan was hired for and I think he should have stuck with couples counseling only.
