Reviews for San Mateo window treatment professionals
Raj T.
I do not post negative reviews lightly. People and businesses can have bad days. However, this interaction warrants it.
Background
=================
I have roman shades from The Shade Store (TSS). The clutch mechanism on one of them was broken. TSS would cover parts. Their suggested labor sounded expensive. Figured I'd hire someone here.
Difficulty scheduling
=================
I reached out to SFBC via Thumbtack. Got a quote next day. After that, crickets. I gave up after reaching out multiple times. Finally called the business phone directly. Spoke to a manager. He agreed upon a time. The appointed time came and passed. No show. Called back. Scheduled a second time. No show again. Called back a third time. Finally got commitment for someone to show up.
Pricing inconsistency
=================
I was offered one price on Thumbtack - $55-$65 (see screenshot). However, over a phone call, that price was revised up significantly to $150. After 3 reschedules and a faulty blind in my master bedroom, I grudgingly agreed. It was no longer worth my while to spend time searching for another vendor.
Incomplete work
=================
The replacement clutch mechanism came with a chain loop that is supposed to go through a tensioner. The tech told me that they were unable to use the previous tensioner since "there was no way to put it around a continuous chain loop". They advised I ask TSS to ship a replacement. I would be charged another full visit fee, discounted to $125, for SFBC to come out and install it.
This turned out to be *false*. TSS confirmed that that the tensioner can be taken apart and put around a loop. I was able to do this myself after the tech left. I assume they were in a rush and could not be bothered with figuring it out.
Conclusion
=================
I know it is hard to get a vendor's attention if your project is anything short of renovating the Hearst Castle. That said, it should not be this hard. We should be able to expect honest pricing. Once we pay a price, we should expect full and complete work. I hate leaving negative reviews. This situation left me no choice. I know my project was small. But this is no way to treat a customer.
