FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I watch them sing, see what they are doing in their belly, ribcage, upper chest, posture, and face. Then I give a diagnosis: what is working well and what we would focus on. We work physically, bringing awareness to shift the problems. Then we return to the song or speaking to use what we learned. We go phrase by phrase slowly, then bring it up to speed.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started private vocal training at 11 years old and continued through college. With 3 choirs in high school--show, women's, and classical--I went to regional and state choirs which were very competitive. I played major roles in musicals including a season stint at 18 with a fully pro theatre company. I grew up learning about teaching through my award-winning teacher mother. I integrate what I learned through Feldenkrais Method, a summer with Shakespeare & Company, private theatre vocal training, and many years of intense listening to hear where tensions are getting in the way of free singing while at the same time building the muscles to allow certain sounds.
