I wish I could give Matt more stars, but I can't. I hired him to hang/mount several things in our apartment-home gym -- a 55" TV and sound bar, a ballet barre, and TRX xmount in the ceiling. I wanted to make sure they were hung well and would be relatively simple to cover/repair should we ever move, so I hired a pro rather than try to do it myself, as I do not in any way identify as "handy." When he arrived I also asked if he could add two small coat racks to hist to-do list. He agreed for a modest additional sum. Matt completed all of the tasks, but it was kind of a rough road getting there. For starters, after explaining he had just replaced his old cheap stud finder with a new digital one, he proceeded to miss the stud twice before hitting it. He did not spackle the misses as he said he would when he was finished. He didn't bring a level with him even though he knew he'd be hanging things that would need to be level. A couple of the bolts on the barre mount are not flush with the wall, and their caps are crooked. Secure, yes, but kinda sloppy. He did a good job on the TV mount, but he assembled the sound bar bracket incorrectly, which I didn't realize until after he'd left. A few times that afternoon, I had to suggested he "consult the user manual," and clearly he didn't do that on the sound bar, because the correct assembly was illustrated on the front cover of the manual. It wasn't hard to correct his mistake and no damage done, but I shouldn't have had to. I had anticipated I would have a few interruptions throughout the afternoon, of course, like lifting the TV or answering a few questions. I did NOT anticipate spending my entire afternoon answering questions, advising, discussing irrelevant things, and actually helping him with some of the tasks. Oh, and he also said he expected someone younger based on the sound of my voice. Trying to take that as a compliment, but still not quite sure. Lastly, he made almost no effort to clean up. He didn't erase any of the many pencil marks on the ceiling and walls. There was sawdust everywhere. Where he did try to clean up with a wet paper towel, it just smeared all over the floor. I spent at least an hour crawling around on the floor cleaning up the mess. (And remember, apparently I'm not as young as I sound!) To his credit, he did a fine job hanging the two coat racks, and making sure the TRX mount was securely into the rafter. The TV mount he recommended I buy is good and installation was well-done. Matt showed up and was timely in his comings and goings, he made some good suggestions, and he did everything I asked and a couple of unscheduled tasks for not much more money. For those reasons, I did give him a tip, though in short, I just wish HandyMatt had been a little more handy.
