In early Sept, Jim of Tree Busters came to property to bid a 100’ high fir tree removal, said it could be done in an 8 hour day. And he would contact the utility companies to have power & cable lines temporarily disconnected as they were near job site. The day prior to the scheduled work in mid Oct, we called Jim to ensure the crew would start at 08:15 the next day for the job. He said yes, but wanted us to contact the utility companies bc it would be easier!!We were surprised bc generally utilities need a few days notice! So we called the power & cable companies and after multiple calls, they were able to accommodate us w such short notice. The morning of the job, a crew of two experienced men with three novices arrived an hour and half later than expected. Nice folk, but not professional! After they figured out which chain saw to use and about a third of way up the tree, a guy yells down to ground man that he doesn’t think it’s right saw size for job, similar idea w ropes in climbing, calls down bc needs different rope, needs different helmet, etc etc….Eventually the chain saw being used to cut the fir ran out of gas, was lowered to ground man to fill it, then sent back up on the rope. Shortly after it made it back up the tree to the guy doing the cutting, one of the younger novice guys on the ground yells up, “hey gas is leaking on me”…it was coming from chain saw bc the cap had not been tight! Also, did not appreciate foul language occasionally being used. Several times as the tree guy was cutting large diameter segments of the fir, they would ‘free fall’ to the ground resulting in huge dust, debris & a boom sound on impact!! One could feel the ground shaking…we talked w one of the men re this ‘free fall’ and he said they would do a controlled type fall w ropes. Later, Jim the manager came to the work site for a few minutes. We shared our observations w him and then he left. All to say the job was not completed the same day. The two men w experience returned a few days later to complete the work. Finally, if one does not have the correct gear and experience to do the job, PLEASE DO NOT BID IT! Just politely decline!!
