FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
First, I never charge for an initial meeting. That is for getting to know each other a little and deciding if we want to work together. There is no obligation. I also offer a $40 discount for students who pay in advance for 4 lessons. Lessons are generally 1 ½ hours once a week. I accept cash, check or electronic transfer.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
At our first meeting, we talk about the student's needs and goals, and I do some testing to determine the current language level, strengths and areas that need strengthening. I then design a curriculum to address that person's needs, finding or creating materials that match the level and the target skills. I work with my students in their homes or in a library or coffee shop.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in English and a master's in linguistics. I taught English as Second Language for over 30 years in Houston Community College and Rice University and have done private tutoring for 10 years.
