Introduction

(Please note: I only do landscape design—not landscape maintenance or installation.) Mike Duckworth received a Home Horticulture certificate after passing the training for the South Carolina Master Gardener Program through Clemson University Extension in Charleston. He combines a former career as a professional classical musician together with decades of graphic and interior design experience to bring harmony, rhythm, form, melody, texture, and quietude to his landscape designs. He is equally comfortable creating both traditional and modern outdoor spaces for residential and commercial clients throughout the greater Charleston area, with an emphasis on using South Carolina native plants. Mike Duckworth Landscape Design (MDLD) actively fosters a friendly collaboration with you, the vendors, architectural review boards (if applicable), the city, and the installer throughout the design and installation process—and beyond. MDLD ensures that your specific needs, preferences, and overall vision will come together to create the ideal garden spaces that you, your family, and your friends can enjoy for many years to come. THE PROCESS I will do whatever it takes to make you 100% happy! Working hands-on with the home or business owner and the contractor throughout the design and installation process, I will ensure a friendly working relationship in which your specific needs and overall design come together to create your dream garden spaces. I meet with the client to find out what their landscape design needs are, what type of plants they like/dislike, and which existing plants to keep/remove/relocate. I take photos of the property and measure all areas. The next stage is to present 2-3 concept ideas to the client. Based on what the client liked and did not like in those concepts, I create a final design, with 1-2 rounds of further changes. I then bid the design out to landscape installation companies, and oversee the installation process. Working with Mike has been great. We are doing a complete renovation to our front yard. The job requires everything from lighting and lawn, to pavers and plants (and a cool water feature). With so many options and questions, we needed a designer who was willing to come out to our home, sit down, and take his time. We also needed a professional designer who could take the project from concept to completion. When we reached out to Mike to explain our project, he immediately offered to come to our home for a consultation. During the initial consultation, he took his time. Mike explained the entire process and went over all our options. After walking the property, we sat down to go over his role in the project and what we could expect. He asked us some great questions so when it come time to put the design on paper the process would be smooth. Mike's attention to detail goes beyond the consultation and design phase. Mike continues to monitor the project at various phases. Once the job transitions to the contractor, Mike will check the job site before completion. This professional approach and commitment to seeming the job is done right, are two more reasons why my wife and work with Mike. Mike is definitely someone we would recommend to friends and family.

From a design perspective Mike showed a true ability to listen to my thoughts and vision and then was able to transform that into a design that was pitch perfect. Given that I am meticulous and design sensitive that was not an easy task on his end. After the design his methodical oversight on the installation and then the maintenance has been equally as impressive.
