Derek S. says, "Sean was always communicative, and because we had business/work related scheduling issues, he was happy to come on a Saturday morning and get our small jobs all done in a few hours. He did everything we asked of him and was very timely and professional. I was surprised by the final bill, as in talking to him on numerous times he said his handyman cost was $50 per hour, +parts, while he had used minor tools and parts of his own, the final invoice reflected individual work charges for each service we had him take care of for us. This was not disclosed to us in any communications prior to the job. He charged us $100 to replace a bathroom vanity mirror door which unkonwingly just snapped in place, and additional cost to replace a toliet roll holder, and install a tv wall mount, and charged for his truck gas. He was here for 3 hours so I expected $150.00 for the work overall, in the end we were charged over 2x this. I'm not upset but as a small travel business owner myself, all my charges are known upfront so there is no surprises or displeasure with my clients and my services. Sean should've made us aware how much he was going to charge upfront for each small project on top of the $50 p/hour, so we could've made a decision properly. In the end I paid him in full without bringing his cost to his attention at end of day, and let it go. Work wise everything was installed and addressed as we requested. He is a nice guy, easy to talk to and discuss the project, and we appreciated him coming out on a weekend."See more

Arnetta S. says, "I searched Thumbtack formy Queen-size Bed and Dresser to be assembled. Being a female who lives alone, I was very particular in my selection of contractors. Reading Geoff's reviews led me to him. Geoff immediately responded. He followed through with a quote and the whole transaction with setting up an appointment for the next day was very smooth, easy and quick. Geoff and I corresponded when he was on his way to confirm the appointment and he arrived exactly as scheduled. The entire experience was so much easier than I thought it would be. Geoff was very knowledgeable about what he was doing. He gave an in-depth description of his experience and background from the beginning. He helped me to feel comfortable not only about choosing him but also about having a complete stranger in my home. The outcome was awesome. I am very pleased with Geoff as both a contractor and a person who is professional, knowledgeable and down to earth. We are in the process of making plans for him to come back to assemble more furniture. Thanks Geoff!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do electricians do free estimates?

Yes, they do. Whether you’re looking for new electrical work or wiring repair, the electrician should offer you a free estimate.

Go online to find the best electricians near you. After researching and finding a few pros who seem qualified for your job, go ahead and request a quote to find out how much those electricians will charge you.

How do I hire an electrician?

Go online to find a list of the best electricians in your area. View each individual electrician’s profile and learn more about their services and expertise. Then, read reviews from satisfied customers as well as any issues they may have encountered. This will help you find one with the right experience to work safely in your home.

You should also spend some time researching what qualifications and credentials they have. You might find information about their license on their profile, or you might need to check your local and state government’s website to verify their license.

Once you’ve done a bit of research, ask to receive free estimates from several electricians in your area. Ultimately, hire the most qualified electrician who can complete your project at a reasonable price.

Is it worth it to hire an electrician?

Yes, it's usually worth it to hire an electrician instead of doing the work yourself.

Electrical work can be very dangerous. The pros spend many years working and studying before they become licensed and certified. That knowledge and training can help them work safely and perform the job without harming themselves or your home.

Even a small wiring repair job can be unsafe if not done correctly. Hiring someone that has specialized training on how to do each specific job is the safest choice.
