Introduction

I am passionate about good design and the role our built environment plays in our well-being — individually and communally. I provide thoughtful interior design services, with an emphasis on psychology and sustainability for human-centered and environmentally responsible design. I am passionate about adaptive reuse, historic preservation, healthy materials, trauma-informed design, environmental and spatial justice issues. I offer interior design services such as: consultations, space planning, staging, design concepts, finish/material selection, furniture procurement, home organization and project management. As a lifelong learner, I have worked hard to explore my place in this world through my education. I was a part time student from 2009-2018, using my time in community college to explore interests of mine, including: psychology, sociology, anthropology, ceramics, French, holistic wellness and interior design before I discovered and fell in love with interior architecture. In 2022, I graduated from University of Oregon with my Bachelor of Interior Architecture and Minor in Architecture. My life experience has shaped my design process into one that prioritizes human needs within a space, paying close attention and care to the sensual, psychological and emotional aspects in design. My strengths revolve around my ability to listen, empathize, organize and create solutions within restrictions. I believe good design is about the users who inhabit a space, rather than any particular style. I enjoy collaborating with my clients and getting to know people to understand their needs in order to provide successful interior design solutions.

I hired Luma Studio to assist me in an office revamp. I've been working from home since the pandemic and my extra bedroom became an impromptu office + storage space + gym. I wanted to declutter, organize, paint, and improve the functionality of the space. Mandi helped me with this daunting task by breaking it down into a manageable action plan. Before we began the redesign, she offered a consultation around organizing, purging, and moving furniture, to create more flow and efficiency. From there, we were able to choose an aesthetic direction, all within my budget. Mandi has a very thoughtful approach to design. She listens, asks questions, and really tries to get to the root of the problem to offer the best solution. I'm very pleased with the how the office/gym turned out. I had no idea how the original harsh lighting, messy cords, and overall dysfunction were playing into my daily anxieties. I now have a space where I can focus, relax and just be. I would happily recommend Luma Studio to anyone who needs support designing their space.

Mandi was awesome! We bought a very unique older house that had a bit of an odd layout and I was struggling to make it work. Mandi is amazing to work with. Always willing to hear our ideas about the project. Very friendly always has a smile. Very understanding. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $75 an hour to meet with my clients, gather information, build a client profile, put together a design concept, shop, and project manage. Additional expenses will be added for traveling outside of Portland, Oregon.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to meet with my clients in their space to create a detailed client profile before I suggest anything. After a thorough interview, I put together a design concept based off of their needs/wants to get feedback and discuss the concept. Once we have a concept solidified, I manage the shopping and coordinate scheduling with our contractors from start to finish.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied interior design at Salt Lake Community College with a strong emphasis on psychology. While in school, I worked for Modern Craftsman in Salt Lake City, Utah, meeting with clients regularly to provide design consultation. We worked with clients to forge custom, hand-crafted, functional works of art using Organicrete® concrete, Ironclad® metal and sustainably sourced wood. I worked as an admin assistant and office manager for a construction company in Eugene, Oregon for 3 years while I continued my education, studying Interior Architecture with a minor in Architecture. I also worked in the Materials Resource Center at University of Oregon. Since graduating in June of 2022, I have worked as an Interior Designer on affordable housing, permanent supportive housing, behavior health, and community-focused projects.
