Michael was prompt and courteous, doing a thorough inspection of our turn of the century studio-sized upright. We purchased it from a family who had multiple generations learning to play on the instrument, but it had sat dormant for quite some time. Two prior tuning sessions from a different company only held for a few days before many notes dropped significantly out of tune. Michael took the time to find that all of the pegs were loose, and the quick to drop out of tune notes were just the loosest of them all. He proposed a chemical treatment to tighten up the wood fibers around the peg. He found two missing strings, some mechanical issues in a few places, and some unconventional work done on one of the pedals. He thoroughly explained each of the issues found and how they were impacting the playability and sound. I decided to go forward with all of the suggested repairs, and he worked through the afternoon into the evening past business hours in order to complete the job. He was extremely polite, and his knowledge clearly came through in his work. He even graciously accepted a bit of "help" from one of our curious cats and even a bit of investigation from two curious but suspicious 10-month-old dogs. I'm incredibly happy to find such a talented resource for my piano, after the two previous failed tuning sessions, I was beginning to despair of finding a good professional to rely on. Despair not, Michael is a gem of a find!

I was referred to Michael Preston via our piano teacher when our regular tuner was unavailable. We had purchased a used baby grand piano and I knew it needed a little bit of work, in addition to a tuning. Michael was beyond thorough! He took his time going over every nook and cranny of the piano, is highly knowledgeable, and has a professional demeanor. I am grateful that I crossed paths with Preston piano and plan to have him return for additional work.

Michael was extremely professional and polite. I was impressed with his knowledge about pianos, especially a baby grand. He provided information about optional services but was never a pressure salesman. He listened to my requests and explained what would be required to attain the sound I preferred.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Our tuning price ranges from $100-$165. If tuned within one year by our company the normal tuning price is $100. Most repairs must be assessed on site before a quote can be given because of the wide range of possible causes. If you would like a piano appraisal or one to be assessed only with no other work done, I charge $75 for a service call fee.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I started working on pianos in my Dad's shop when I was about 10 years old. My love for music and pianos has grown from there.
