Mr. Dan is very knowledgeable and I just love his style of teaching. He has years of experience that is evident in his lessons. He was able to identify my current level in Piano playing and adapt the lessons accordingly. I was able to play my first song while reading sheet music in my first week! I would really recommend his Piano lessons.

I am about 6 lessons into my piano lessons with Mr. Dan and I have had a great experience so far. I have weekly lessons and my assignments each week push me to further my knowledge and skill but are also conducive to my current level. I've really enjoyed studying with Mr. Dan so far and am already making so much more progress than I have in the past with learning piano.

Mr. Dan took the time to talk to me about my goals in learning how to play the piano. He assessed my skill level and has tailored my lessons in a way that will challenge me but keep me excited about my progress. He is incredibly patient and really cares about helping his students be the best they can be. I'm excited about learning from him and look forward to my weekly lessons. I started taking piano lessons in December 2023, having no prior experience playing instruments or reading music. Mr. Dan started me out with the basics - musical theory and reading music - before jumping into my first song. When he told me I’d be playing my first song in three weeks, I was doubtful at first, but with practice and weekly lessons, I’m now working on my THIRD song. He has a wonderful ability to understand where your skill level is and to assign tasks and songs that challenge you, but not to a level where it’s frustrating or impossible for you as the student. I appreciate his laid-back and encouraging teaching style, especially when I mess up or a concept takes me longer to grasp. I highly recommend Mr. Dan for piano lessons - worth every penny!

I started my journey at the Piano Loft 12 weeks ago, and wholly smokes, what an awesome choice! I was a little nervous being an adult beginner but Mr. Dan went out of his way to tailor my lessons and learning path to fit my skill level and busy schedule. Mr. Dan built the Piano Loft program himself, and in the short time I’ve been with him I have improved a ton despite having to balance a busy college schedule.
If you choose the Piano Loft, expect to grind, learn a lot (a lot) about music theory, and explore all different styles of music. I have sincerely enjoyed my experience thus far!

I'm impressed by his enthusiasm for teaching, his knowledge and experience. I interviewed several potential piano instructors and feel Gary's method, which incorporates improvisational techniques along with traditional, is best suited for my needs. At this point, after only 1 introductory lesson, I cannot provide any suggestions for improvement.

I took interest in learning to play the Piano about three(3) weeks ago. I researched for a instructor (Dan) and started taking lessons. Dan knows his craft in addition to the right patience to deal with beginners. To my surprise I able to read music and play beginner songs. With his instructions I’m sure I’ll master this task I’ve undertaken. I very pleased with Dan’s assistances.

I was looking for a specific kind of piano teacher for my 2 children, 10 and 12 years old. I wanted my children to learn to read music and be able to play classical style pieces, but I also wanted them to learn other styles and the basics they would need to be creative. Mr. Dan is the perfect teacher for this! We have taken a month's worth of lessons. His homework has been challenging for my children, but he is always helpful and encouraging when they play for him each week. They are learning the basics right now because they are beginners, but in class he shows them the kind of fun they will be able to have when they get the basics down. I am seriously considering taking lessons myself! I highly recommend Mr. Dan!

I found Dan through Thumbtack several months ago. I grew up playing the trumpet (elementary school thru high school) and taught myself how to play the piano in middle school. The piano never stuck with all of my other commitments at the time and I let it go after about a year. I'm now 31 years old and back at it.
With that said, I came to Dan able to read music and with some basic music theory. Dan started by asking what my goals were and his philosophy on teaching. We matched perfectly - I wanted to play cocktail music/jazz standards and entertain friends/family at Christmas (no classical concert pianist here) and Dan is an accomplished jazz player with a knack for taking the skeleton of a song and making it his own. Dan started me on my scales/chords and I quickly learned how important they were to the foundation of songs and being able to improvise.
Dan is always on time, always prepared and always ensures that you know what you need to work on for your next lesson. Dan is an excellent teacher who is extremely knowledgeable. Also important to note, his "studio" (house) is always clean and you will always feel comfortable. I'm now beginning to play off of lead sheets and making great progress in improvising on songs. I highly recommend Dan for piano lessons - he will take your playing to another level!

Mr. Dan is a seriously talented artist with exceptional teaching skills. I’m the daughter of a piano instructor, so having grown up around musicians, I know talent when I see it. He also clearly teaches because he loves music and wants to share his passion. After meeting him, I was sure he was the right teacher for our 6 year old daughter. Eventually, our 4 year old daughter will also take lessons. Not only is Mr. Dan talented, he knows how to work with people where they are. It doesn’t matter your stage of life or current ability, he can work with you. My daughter already knows things in a few weeks that I took months to learn. His methods really work. I also love, as a parent, that he has set his classroom up to allow me to sit in the room during the lesson. I encourage you to go meet him if you’re looking for an instructor in the Charlotte area!
