I cannot say enough about Canty Brothers. I interviewed 4 contractors to put on a first floor addition with full basement foundation (to extend existing kitchen/dining area), renovate an attic into second story living space by adding a shed dormer and 5 gable dormers, and bring the elecrical/plumbing/heat/air conditioning/insulation - essentially updating everything in the home to bring it up to code for the purpose of renting. The new addition included a complete new kitchen and full bath. The upstairs renovation created two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. I liked John Canty's input into my vision, concern to stay in budget, and most of all his confidence in his team so I hired Canty Brothers. This job was enormous. We encountered many problems .... asbestos in the furnace, the main beam of the home was eaten by termites and needed replacement, the plans my architect drew up needed revising..... just to name a few. We broke ground in November 2018 and it was complete by early August 2019. (most of it was done by the end of May). I absolutely loved John's team (Kevin, Tracy, Adam, Julio and many more - all were professional, kind, responsive, hard working and knowledgeable (in fact I miss them!). If I had a question/concern, I got an immediate response/resolve. John had the lowest bid on the project but he is not cheap. He approached spending my money as he would his own- very wisely and budgeted where he could to save me money on things that mattered to me least. In this business you get what you pay for, and if you want it done right and to your liking, you should definitely hire Canty Brothers. I will never use another contractor. He is simply the best there is out there. I got exactly what I asked for and paid just under half a million (about $80k over budget due to issues not in Canty Brothers control and my expensive taste in all of the masonry used) - but the value created in this investment by having it done right far exceeded the cost. They did an amazing job.

The Canty team was great from initial discovery, design and scoping, to sale/close, the actual work, and post project. The process was transparent and without surprises. Curveballs thrown by our old house or suppliers were dealt with responsively and cost consciously. The project ended up beautifully and beyond our expectations. We have worked with Canty Brothers on several projects and it has been a pleasure each time.

They did what they said they would do and so much more! 1929, about 1,500 sq ft, house; galley kitchen remodel; design to build project Checked out about 15 contractors, whittled it down to meet with 3, and chose CANTY BROS for our complete design to build kitchen project. They had fantastic communication, were professional with expertise, and worked hard with us to keep within our budget while giving us many options during the process. Our Canty team was headed by Jean, Kevin, and Tracey. They built a nice rapport with us patiently & thoroughly answering our questions and addressing our concerns. We always felt comfortable with them at our house. They made sure the work areas were nice and clean at the end of each day. They were great with making sure our dog was safely in her area even when we would forget to close our dog off as we rushed off to work. The end product was truly better than we could have ever thought of. Our space is now a well-spaced, functional galley kitchen that looks picture perfect but also goes seamlessly with the rest of our house. Their attention to detail and enthusiasm for our project lasted from start to finish and beyond. At the final walk through they were looking for any smudges or fingerprints that may have been on the new white cabinets. They let us know to contact them with any concerns as we became accustomed to our new kitchen, and since then they have contacted us to follow up on their work. We couldnt be happier with our Canty Brothers home! We knew immediately when we saw the house that it was the perfect home for us. Its a 5 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom colonial built on approximately one-third of an acre lot and everyone who sees it remarks that it is absolutely beautiful! It would be easy to say that the home was an extraordinary value, but that description doesnt quite do it justice and could give the false impression that the house isnt top notch. The fact of the matter is that the house could have been priced 15% higher and it would still feel like a steal! It is that amazing! The house is absolutely luxurious - it has huge bedrooms, an oversized kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances, a spacious 2-car garage, a large backyard deck, and a farmers porch. There are also a ton of subtle touches throughout the home that make it extremely comfortable, like a tankless water heater, slide-out shelves in the pantry and Lazy Susan, a huge master bath with a deep bathtub and a gorgeous glass-enclosed shower, and whisper-silent garage doors. We are extremely proud to own this home!Our satisfaction with Canty Brothers goes beyond the house itself the support that they have provided after the sale simply blew us away! They were super responsive whenever we had to reach out to them and they were very willing to address issues that we experienced with the house shortly after moving in (just quirky things that typically arise with new builds). While we hope to live in this home for a long time, we would absolutely look to Canty Brothers for a future home.

With over 30 years of construction experience specializing in custom home remodeling, renovations and additions, (especially in Massachusetts vintage homes) we always know what to expect. We can uncover most unforeseen problems in the beginning design phase, avoiding any frustrating financial surprises.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Initial Inquiry From You: You contact us and we take the time to understand your request. We will ask you some basic questions about your project, acquire contact information, set up an appointment at a convenient time for all interested parties and suggest some resources so you can be prepared for our business meeting. Initial Consultation: This complimentary consultation and meeting are held at your home or our design office. We will interview each other to determine if we are fit. We will determine if we are compatible to work together and are able to communicate comfortably. We will be listening intently to understand what you want to accomplish. In turn we want you to ask us whatever is necessary for you to feel comfortable about the possibility of us working with you as a teammate for several months. These projects involve several weeks or months for design, scope development, product selections and then several weeks or months to build. Then we will take pictures, rough measurements and gather data regarding the scope of work, assess your needs, wants, must haves, wish list items and your investment goals. At the conclusion to this meeting we will discuss whether or not it makes sense to set up a follow up meeting. If yes we will, if no we will thank you. Second Consultation: This is a follow up to our first meeting. Prior to our meeting we will confirm that you have checked any requested references and have completed your homework on us. Then we will come prepared with a scope overview of your project based upon our first meeting. This will include the general overview and scope of work for the project we discussed in the first meeting. It will also include a budget range. It will not be an exact budget amount. Final budget amounts need to be confirmed by your approval of all selections, products and finishes. At this point we will know each well enough and there will be sufficient information surrounding the project to determine if we are the perfect fit you are looking for to complete your home (or business) investment. Design Agreement: the next step after we discuss the above is to proceed to the design phase. Here we will agree to a design order to be drawn and scope developed within your desired investment range. This order grants Canty Brothers Construction permission to provide a Conceptual Design for your project. Homeowner Meets Designer/Architect: the next step is we will have a meeting at your home with you and other interested parties, the designer or architect and your representative. In this meeting we will take exact measurements, pictures and assess the structure and systems in preparation to begin the preliminary drawings. Preliminary Design Meeting: a few weeks after our site visit with our designer we will invite you to our office to view the preliminary conceptual design. Here we will seek your approval for the design, we will make changes as desired, and we will also complete a budget check to make sure that there are no surprises. This step may take some time as you may make some changes to the preliminary design. Also you may need some time to consider other options we suggest or you think of along the way. Site Visit With Trades: after you have approved the preliminary design we will schedule a site visit with our trades people. This is where you will have a chance to see the team we are bringing to your home to do the project. Many of our customers have expressed their satisfaction with this step. They appreciate the opportunity to meet the people who will be coming to their home before they are on site. Also at this meeting our trade partners will view the site with the approved preliminary plans. This allows them to see the job with the plans and leads to a more accurate scope of work minimizing surprises on the job. The scope of work they agree to becomes part of the project scope of work that you ultimately approve on the contract to construct. Shopping, Product Selections; now it’s time to go shopping! This step includes us going shopping with you for a day to finalize selections and products. No prices can be finalized until this step is complete. Once finalized we then consult with our trade partners to make sure that anything we decided is in line with their scope of work and pricing. In the event you need additional time or assistance we can arrange time with one of our interior designers. Scope of Work Development: once final selections are made, final assessments and pricing form trade partners are obtained we complete the final scope of work and pricing. Contract to construct: next step is we meet with you to finalize the contract to build. Permit, Ordering and Scheduling: after the contract to construct is finalized we will apply for the permit, order special order products, line up the team and provide you with a schedule. Pre-Construction Meeting with Team: simultaneously while the permit phase is underway, we will conduct an internal pre-construction meeting in our office with the team who will build your project. Turnover Meeting With You: once we receive the permit we will hold a meeting at your home and you will be introduced to our lead carpenter. The lead carpenter will be responsible for building and managing your project. He will become part of your family and be there on a daily basis unless the schedule dictates otherwise. Start Construction: shortly after the turnover meeting we will start the project. Weekly Meetings: your lead carpenter will conduct weekly scheduled meetings with you to assess project progress each week. Pre-Completion: meeting prior to the completion of the job to finalize the close out. Completion: warranties, final instructions, and final payments are made. However, we will always stay in contact and maintain open lines of communication to ensure satisfaction with your investment!
