The initial communication with Trout went as well as expected. He was friendly, responded on time, and we quickly agreed on a fair price for his photography services (an engagement shoot, and wedding). For the engagement shoot, Trout showed up early to scout the area, and was okay to work with. The main issue that we experienced was he didn't have the skills to properly pose people; my fiance did not feel comfortable with the way he posed us, and this was reflected in the pictures. Either way, we asked for a few photos to be delivered within a week so that we can use it on our save-the-dates. He delivered those photos as promised, and things seem to be going well. This is then where things fell apart. After the initial photos were delivered, we didn’t hear from him for almost 2 months. At that point, we tried to get a hold of him via email, text, and eventually Instagram. He finally responded about 2 weeks after the initial email and multiple texts saying the photos would be delivered Thursday of that week. He eventually delivered the photos on Friday. For reference, I have a background in sports journalism and studio fashion photography, and I have shot 2 weddings myself. Trout delivered 19 photos for a shoot that lasted a little under an hour. The contract says that he typically delivers 40 photos/hour, so this was well short of that. Even then, the photos delivered were very generic and lacked the variety that I expected. The photos were all taken from a medium focal length; there were not any close-ups, wide-angles, ect… In addition, the editing was consistently too warm and oversaturated with our faces too dark resulting in having to edit the photos again myself. Also, many of the delivered photos were from the same spot shot with the same focal length making them feel like duplicates. We tried to make this right by asking if he could deliver more photos. After an email, and phone call, and a week passing by, he has only done so because we sent a termination of contract email. As expected, he would not refund any of the 50% deposit that was provided. I’ve already made peace with that, but hopefully this review would give you any insight into what working with Trout is like. So in summary, if you just want a couple of generic “pretty pictures” that you can post on Instagram or use on your dating profile, then Trout may work for you. But his lack of professionalism, communication, photography, and editing skills would not make him a good candidate to photograph any events of significant importance. Update: To Trout’s credit, he has become much more responsive and has tried to make amends after this review was posted. These amends included sending us all of the RAW images from our engagement shoot (375 images total), and a refund of $200 (out of the $1800 that was for the retainer). Thus, I changed the rating from an original 2-star to 3-star. However, the original criticism still is valid. Prior to terminating his contract, we didn’t hear from him, and it would be weeks before he would respond to an email. In addition, he has addressed the criticism of his editing describing it as his artistic style. I do understand that argument, but it is also portrait photography. Simply put, there are strong guidelines that should be adhered to (ie. faces should be bright and clearly visible).

Trout is an exceptional, skilled photographer behind the camera and an even more amazing person. He captured the most special moments on our wedding day, pictures we will treasure for a lifetime. Trout cared so much about capturing our story and vision that there was no doubt in my mind to give him creative freedom with photography, poses, editing - all of it! He does a great job making people feel comfortable and was so encouraging when we were in front of the camera. He has obviously learned from the best and his professionalism and knowledge is unmatched!

It's always hard trying to find the right person to capture one of the biggest milestones of your life. From the second we contacted Trout, we knew he was the guy to tell our story. The video we received brought us to tears and truly made us feel like we were back at our wedding. It's something we will treasure forever! I can't recommend Trout enough!

Trout produced an awesome, high quality wedding video for us! Great to work with and he was able to get the video edited and sent to us a lot faster than we were expecting.
