Maureen has been assisting my daughter with her reading for several months now. She is prompt and my daughter enjoys her one on one tutoring session. Maureen is very helpful and patient. My daughters reading has improved since hiring Maureen. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who has a child needing extra help with their reading.

Maureen was very nice when she welcomed us into her home so we could all meet. It was was a lovely home but the aroma of cigarette smoke was very strong. Our only hesitation was that her home reeked of cigarette smoke. We were intrigued by the content that she was going to teach our son, so I told him that if he could not deal with the smell then we would try someone else.
After his first session with her his clothes smelled like cigarettes and it was the beginning of the end. After an in depth discussion his Mother and I decided that it would be in our son's best interest to look for tutoring else where. I sent Maureen a very courteous email letting her know that we would not be continuing to utilize her services and that's when her true colors came out. She replied to my email and I could tell that she was angry and possibly hurt from me being truthful to her. I was not expecting that because the person we met just a couple weeks before was very different. Maureen has to understand that in this day and age smoking is not accepted as the norm. It was a big stretch for my son to even give her a try because he really has a problem with smoking, but as I stated she seemed like a nice lady and her content could have possibly benefited my child.
I don't typically leave negative reviews online. I rarley leave any reviews online for that matter. However, Maureen took it to far when she accused my family of things that weren't true.
Unfortunately, I can't leave a review on Maureen as a tutor because we didn't get to see the benefits of her work. If what I stated in my review bothers you then Maureen is not the right person to tutor your child. If you don't mind your child being taught in a 3rd hand smoke environment then she may be just right for you. My advice is don't be truthful with her because she doesn't take to kindly to that.
Here is our email exchange for your reference. (I did not bother replying to her. She didn't deserve one)
"Hi Maureen,
I would like to notify you that we will be going in a different direction with Ethan's tutoring. The deciding factor in our decision is our Son's dislike for smoking cigarettes and the smell of it. I was hoping he could get past it because I can see the benefit of the program you offer, but I believe that ultimately it would be a distraction for him. Having him distracted is the last thing I would want during a tutoring session. His Mother and I discussed this in depth and we believe this decision it the best for him. I hope that you can understand where we are coming from as parents and don't take this personally. It was a pleasure meeting you and your lovely granddaughter and we wish you the best. Thank you."
"I specifically asked him if that was bothering him and he said “no.” It is absolutely ridiculous to think a kid can manipulate his way out of doing the necessary work with such a lame excuse. I teach children all the time and I probably always smell of smoke. I don’t smoke with them in the house and with them near me outside. I think either your son just wants an excuse or maybe you have decided you don’t want to pay for it. To be honest with you, I would not teach your child after this demonstration by your family. I turn down students all the time if I think parents are not committed and have never been told that smoking outside was a problem, that is why I made it very clear what my charges were and what would be needed to get him reading up to grade level. Shame on you."
