Reviews for North Hollywood window repair professionals
Stephanie T.
I contacted Home 2 Renovate about a window at my home that leaked in heavy rain. They came up as a provider for "windowrepair" here on Thumbtack and the reviews looked good, so I set up an estimate. Two reps arrived at my house (perhaps one was in training as she did not contribute to the estimate). After taking a brief look at the window the main rep told me that they do not repairwindows after all (?). I was told that they don't do any repairs, they "only will replace" because they can't guarantee the work if it's a repair... hmm. He told me the window looked fine though (it is a new window) and then asked to see the roof. My roof is less than one year old (and I told them that). My house was renovated top to bottom before I purchased it, and it had a great inspection during the purchase process. He went into my attic and accessed the roof on the exterior. After inspecting, he asked to sit down somewhere because it would be a long conversation (which had me scratching my head). I agreed to sit down with them outside due to the pandemic and ended up sitting through a long sales pitch outside in the cold/wind. I explained I was working from home and didn't think that this would be such a lengthy process, but the rep insisted that we walk through the presentation start to finish. The rep went back to his car several times to get roofing samples to show to me. I guess I could have stopped the presentation but at first his assessment was not clear to me... which was that he recommended that I REPLACE my less than one year old roof. I was very surprised, and I told them this. I am sure that I don't have the greatest quality roof that money can buy, I'm sure the installation was not as expertly done as it can be - this house was a flip, so that's to be expected. But I was shocked and dismayed that he thought that the roof needed to be replaced after only a year. He pointed out all kinds of "issues" with my roof. From the type of flashing, to a lack of underlayment, said there was "signs of water damage" in the attic, and a lack of insulation. Most notably, was the lack of a ridge installed on my roof - from the photos he shared I could see that this was true, but was unsure about the rest. I asked if the ridge could just be added on top of the rest of the roof since that seemed very necessary. Again, I was told no repairs, only full replacements. I asked for the quote for my own knowledge, at this point 1.5 hours into what I thought would be a 20-30 min estimate on a window, I asked that he email me the quote so I could get back to work. He said they don't do that and he would be back after putting "pen to paper". He returned with a 17K quote for a new roof and gutters on my small house and small garage. There was some pressure about a special price, just for today. I don't hire without at least three quotes and opinions. My husband and I were very distressed by this news though - did our brand new house need a roof already? Were we at risk of more leaks, structural damage and mold? It was pretty stressful news, over the holidays. I got two other roofing professionals over to my house for an inspection and a quote. Both of those professionals assured me that my roof is fine and that it does not need to be replaced! They agreed I should add the ridge to my roof (no debate there) and that is a max. $1400 repair. They said the flashing, underlayment, ect. is fine and my roof should last 10-15 years. Maybe Home 2 Renovate does good work, from the detailed sales presentation I sat through it looks like they are using great materials and installing quality roofs, that is... if you need a roof, which I do not. Apparently I need a ridge, and maybe a window flashing repair though I still don't know because I am still looking for someone who actually repairswindows. I feel that Home 2 Renovate tried to up-sell me into a new roof purchase that I do not need. I feel they were trying to take advantage of a new homeowner and they were dishonestly looking for an opportunity to make a sale instead of helping me with my actual issue. I will be going with one of the other roofing professionals for my ridge repair (not a full roof replacement). Home 2 Renovate, you should drop the aggressive sales pitch and customize your approach to address what potential clients need.
