FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer 45 minute lessons starting at $60. The introductory lesson is a standalone. If you enjoy the initial meeting and would want to continue regularly, I charge monthly. It usually works out to 4-5 lessons per month If you’re taking one a week. I teach in Long Beach but can also travel to you for additional $15 fee. If there is a need to reschedule a lesson, please give a 24-48 hour advance notice to receive a lesson credit. If you're interested in group lessons, please contact me about pricing.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, through phone call, I get acquainted with the new student. I ask questions about their current playing ability, their long term goals, taste in music, and just get a general grasp of who they are as a person and musician. When we meet, I bring materials that feel appropriate for the student's current level and goals. During this first meeting I will further assess the student's ability by listening to them play. If the student has no experience then we will begin to get acquainted with the instrument on the first lesson. Usually, we will chat a bit more about musical interests and goals. I take this time to explain practicing expectations and how to best work together in order to have fun while learning easily and effectively.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been playing music for over 12 years and have done so in various contexts ranging from playing in high school jazz bands, my own musical groups, guitar ensembles, recording sessions and live solo work. I've also been teaching lessons throughout the last 8 years, starting with being asked to begin teaching at a former local music studio while I was in high school. I have studied various styles ranging from rock, blues, folk, jazz, soul, classical, and some Brazilian forms.
