Introduction
(Serious inquiries only, please. Thumbtack charges us a fee when we get a message) I am a positive reinforcement dog trainer and have been training dogs since 2019. I started out as celebrity trainer Tamar Geller's assistant trainer doing board & trains, as well as private sessions. I do training in person and virtual training for basic and advanced obedience, behavior modification, and confidence building. Virtual sessions are helpful for puppies to talk about potty training, starting a routine, teething and chewing, how to socialize, and starting basic obedience. During these sessions, I would explain basic obedience cues to you and have you try it with your dog. Online sessions are also good for dogs that have behavioral issues or are very aggressive. It's best to muzzle train on your own and teach some basic obedience to your dog before having a trainer come out in person. I offer flexible scheduling and pricing and am available anytime by text or call to help you along the way of your training journey!

Awesome experience on the first day training my husky dog. Heather is a professional trainer with a lot of patience. Very valuable lessons on the first day. I was really impressed with how well my dog responded to her. He's starting to listen to me on the first day of training. Highly recommend her.

Heather has been working with me and my puppy Beni on basic training and obedience. She’s doing such a great job that we are learning quickly! It’s super convenient for her to come to my house and helpful for him to learn in a familiar environment. She’s very patient and has a ton of knowledge about animal care. Heather also provided dog sitting services in my home for both Beni and my senior, Daisy. She communicated consistently, sent lots of photos, took them on walks, gave belly rubs, did feedings and administered medications. Puppies and seniors have very different needs, and she met them all with ease. I can travel for business, knowing that they are extremely well taken care of. I highly recommend Heather because she is a skilled trainer, friendly, communicative and dependable. Most of all, my pugs absolutely adore her!

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I've been working with dogs and other animals for over 10 years. I've been a veterinary assistan and worked at doggie daycare facilities. After being with groups of 15 dogs, I learned a lot about body language and started to train dogs.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Dog trainers train the owner as much as we do dogs. Owners need to work with their dogs in between sessions. 5-10 minutes at a time helps a lot.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Potty training doesn't really require a trainer. Consistently is key for all training. The best thing you can do for a puppy or any dog that is not house trained is to take them outside every 2 hours at least. In the morning, 10 minutes after they eat and when puppies start to play are often times that they will need to go outside.
