I take an individual approach to my students, gearing my lessons to their skill level. Each series of classes are to meet their goals, while teaching them confidence to try projects on their own. My classes takes the mystery out of sewing. My costumes have won several awards and first places at competition. Working with people, watching them grow and passing on my knowledge

Mary was awesome! She clearly knows her stuff, and even did research on my ancient sewing machines both before and after our first lesson. I appreciated her wisdom and experience with pattern design and execution, and she gave me a lot of confidence that I could accomplish my sewing goals.

Mary was wonderful! I highly recommend that anyone interested in sewing at any level. We had a consultation phone call where she asked more about my goals, my current skill level, etc. and we set up our first lesson, which went over the basics of the machine. Then I had 3 more lessons built around making a dress pattern I had bought. She was super flexible. For example, she will help you make pretty much anything. I made a dress, but I know she teaches men and at least one person who makes stuffed animals. She had no problems modifying the pattern by adding zippers if I wanted to learn that. And because I only had the one week to take lessons during my vacation, she also was able to figure out how to use the lessons so that I could do the other half on my own time. This reduced the number of lessons, helped me learn on my own, and I had a finished dress at the end of 4 two-hour lessons! The other thing I will say is Mary gets straight down to business. She definitely chats with you, but one thing that I always noticed in other people's lessons is they will stop whatever they are doing if a topic comes up in small chat. That wastes time and the lessons are short. Mary gets that and any time you are not actively sewing is spent explaining the next step. She'll chat while you're putting in pins, sewing something, etc. Lastly, it's awesome that she comes to you. I wanted to learn on my machine and she doesn't mind the trip, which I'm sure is at least 45 mins for her. It just made the whole thing a no brainer for me and I will be calling again the next time I need help with a project!

My pricing system is very simple, it is based on an hourly rate, with additional for travel, if necessary
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Sewing is something I was taught to do as a child. After being in the business world for 27 years, I wanted to try something else. I discovered that there seemed to be a need for sewing lessons. I never left the sewing industry. I decided it was time to offer my service to more than friends and family
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look for someone who will provide the lessons that you want and teaches the "why" Not everyone wants to make a pillow, bag or pillow case! (Common with most sewing teachers)
