FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
MerchMax's basic editing service includes copyediting, such as: - checking for correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax; - ensuring consistency in use of hyphenations, numerals, fonts, and capitalizations; - being on the lookout for ambiguous or factually incorrect statements (especially important for non-fiction); - tracks macro concerns such as awkward grammar. Basic services are billed at $40/hour, or on a word-count basis, whichever is less. There is a minimum of $40 per job. More complex editing, such as extended proofreading, or line editing (developmental editing), is priced differently, and at a higher rate; this rate is dependent on the depth of editing required.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I establish a dialogue and partnership with my customers via inquiry, or a needs analysis, as to the topic of the written work, and the audience it is being prepared for, and the individual customer's expectations.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an astute editor, excellent at detecting proper sentence structure, grammar, and flow. As an experienced writer and editor, I have garnered years of experience as #1: an instructional designer, #2: a language arts teacher, and a #3: a curriculum developer. I have worked on documents of many types including academic dissertations, technical topics, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and philosophical writings.
