FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For smaller jobs, like handyman work, I charge a very competitive hourly rate. For larger jobs, like remodel work, I provide a detailed quote for a fixed price contract, based on agreed upon scope and materials. When developing fixed price contract quotes, I refer to a professionally developed, national pricing model with localized rates for Southwest Washington.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When working with a new customer, I ask questions and listen during an initial telephone conversation. For handyman work I then schedule an appointment to come out and do the job, although we may need to exchange ideas and pictures via text or email. For remodel work, I schedule an appointment to determine the customer's ideas and design issues, take measurements, and get back to them with an emailed quote.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Although I spent 20 years in high tech corporate business, General Contracting gets me back to my formative years building things on the family farm, and then working in different trades that were both shop based time and on site customer locations, commercial and residential. Working as a cabinet and countertop maker in the shop I learned precision craftsmanship. Working to install at the customer location, I learned that there can be challenges making the shop built materials work in the customer's (sometimes imperfect) location. More recently I've had formal training on new construction materials, like Schluter Systems waterproofing for tile installations.
