Introduction
All lessons are provided either in-person (with COVID safety protocols), or online over Zoom with high quality audio and video. Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced Voice: Do you want vocal instruction that gets you the results you're after? Do you want an instructor that has knowledge and expertise in most singing styles, and won't force you to stick to one? Are you a complete beginner that has always wondered "what if"? Maybe you're a seasoned vocalist and performer that needs specialized advice and outside perspective? I have over 20 years of experience as a singer, musician, and performer; and 14 years of experience teaching students of all ability levels to surpass their own expectations and achieve their goals. If we work together, you will improve in every area as you learn the vital skills of intelligent practicing, technique, musicianship, and the art of performance. A little bit about me: “Dan Gibbs, baritone, is an emerging young artist and private voice, guitar, and piano instructor in Portland, OR. He earned his B.A. in Music; with an emphasis in Vocal Performance from Southern Oregon University, under the direction of Dr. Paul French. Dan also studied with teachers Ellie Holt-Murray, Laurie Ann Hunter, Willene Gunn (Retired Director of the San Francisco Conservatory Opera Program), and internationally acclaimed baritone Rod Gilfry (USC Thornton School of Music). As a resident of Oregon’s Rogue Valley, he held 5 different small roles with Rogue Opera; participated in 5 Brava! Opera Theater Workshops; sang as a member and featured soloist of the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers and the Rogue Valley Chorale; was a featured soloist with the Siskiyou Singers, Jefferson Baroque Orchestra, Britt Festival Symphony Orchestra, and Rogue Valley Symphony Orchestra. As a resident of the Portland Metro Area, Dan’s credits include: studio recording and live performance as a member and troupe baritone of the arts ensemble “Cult of Orpheus”, led by director and composer Christopher Corbell (2018/2019); as a featured baritone soloist performing Ralph Vaughn Williams’ “5 Mystical Songs” and “Dona Nobis Pacem” with the Oregon Chorale and the Beaverton Symphony Orchestra (2019); as a chorus member of Opera in the Park (2018-2019); as a performer with Opera on Tap PDX (2019); and as Vodnik in LAH-SOW’s concert performance of Antonín Dvořák’s “Rusalka” (2019), as Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die "Zauberflüte" (2020), and as Wotan in Richard Wagner's "Das Rheingold". Dan made his debut with Portland Opera as a chorus member in Puccini's "Tosca" in 2021; Bizet's "Carmen" in 2022, made his main stage debut as The Hunter in Dvorak's "Rusalka" in 2023, and as Tim in "The Snowy Day" 2024; as Dr. Watson in "Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Fallen Giant" with Opera Modesto; and as Maquis D'Obigny in "La Traviata" with OperaBend. Dan currently spends his time teaching privately from his home in-person, and online from his recording studio. Your journey toward becoming a more confident musician and performer starts here. Dan is an amazing teacher and taught me how to properly use my voice as its own instrument. He made sure he understood everything I was feeling when I sang so that he could tailor my lessons to open up my breathing and remove as much tension as possible. He is so encouraging and does everything he can to help you grow into the singer you want to be. I can’t thank him enough and I will recommend him to anyone wishing to improve!

Details: 18 - 25 years old • Yes, the student can read music • No formal training • Jazz • R&B • Pop • What the teacher recommends • Rock • 30 minutes • Remotely (phone or internet) • At the pro’s location

I’ve only done one lesson but that man literally extended my range and helped me get rid of 70% of my tension issue in 45 minutes. I plan to continue working with Dan and I would certainly recommend him to anyone who wants to take their voice seriously. I don’t usually make a review this early on but Ive never seen/ felt results that instantly.

Details: 18 - 25 years old • No, the student cannot read music • No formal training; some self-taught experience • Pop • Rock • 30 minutes • At the pro’s location
