I’m a trained certified chef with over 25 years of professional cooking experience in a variety of settings. I have catered for celebrities, 300+ person events, weddings, and have been a private chef all over the world for many years. I also owned and operated Urban Roots PDX, a weekly allergen-friendly meal delivery service, for 4 years here in Portland. My focus is still on creating 100% customized menus for my clients individual needs and helping those with food allergies stay on a healthy eating track. I've only been lucky enough to have a few private chef experiences, which is why I can confidently say that not all are created equal. There is the obvious focus on the food, but you can get great food at countless restaurants. You also need to consider the dinner-planning experience, and more importantly the vibe of the chef that will be front in center at your private event or home. Ryan checks all the boxes. His food was absolutely amazing, which I'll dig into shortly. I want to start first with how responsive and collaborative he was. We'd originally planned on a French dining experience, but had to shift a couple weeks later to Polynesian. Ryan was completely adept at both cuisines and brought several different creative ideas to the meal planning process. It was during this planning process that I quickly got a feel for his vibe. He's extremely experienced, is a total professional, but one with a personality that's great to be around. From the opening ginger marinated meatballs (which were so good I didn't even get a chance to take a picture of) to the wildly insane coconut rice with fall off the bone braised chicken, to the Hawaiian dream cake...my mouth is watering just thinking about it! Can't recommend Ryan enough!

We had Chef Ryan cater for our September wedding. Not only was I completely SOLD after the tasting we had, all my guests at the wedding raved about the food. 100% would go with Chef Ryan all over again - absolutely no complaints. He was super responsive throughout the whole wedding planning process and even recommended two bartenders on somewhat short notice. I was beyond pleased with his work and would recommend him for any wedding. We had steak, salmon and chicken with a variety of salads and vegetable sides. SOOO GOOD.

Wow! What a treat! What an amazing brunch for Mother’s Day! Prime rib was cooked to perfection, the fried chicken with waffles made my house smell amazing and was my favorite! The fruit salad and potato salad were perfect for the start of summer and were a big hit! A family favorite is the deviled eggs and they did not disappoint! A beautifully displayed spread! He included a pecan cheesecake for dessert and it was the best cheesecake I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot! Very impressed and very pleased! He cooked, served, cleaned and it was a perfect gift for my high standard mother! LOL! THANK YOU RYAN! Will be returning!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For weekly personal chef services, pricing ranges from $250-$325/wk + the cost of groceries. Depends on the level of food restrictions and how many different types of meals are requested. Service fee includes, menu planning, shopping, cooking, packaging, cleaning/sanitizing.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Client contacts me, we set up a phone call to discuss your individual needs, schedule a time to stop by your house to take inventory, hash out details, confirm pricing and choose a start date and time to cook.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a culinary arts degree from Fox Valley Tech in Wisconsin, where I am originally from.
