Pros • Overall I am pleased with my deck • It is a solid deck • It is level • Gary showed up on time, every time • Good communication, responds quickly, easy to communicate with Gary • Completed on time • Good spacing on the joists * Price was good. About half of what the other two quotes I received. Cons • Lacks some attention to detail o Upright pickets for handrail are evenly spaced until the end o Started laying decking from house side forward instead of front edge back. This meant that when he needed to cut a piece to fit, the narrow cut piece is on the front and stands out. Additionally, he put the cut edge out on the front leading edge. This will mean it will tend to chip off. • The stairs are enclosed with kickboard as requested. However, the kick boards are treated fence boards instead of the treated deck wood that the rest of the deck is made from. He built the treads first and then put in the kickboards so the fence boards where the only thing that will fit. Had he built the steps by putting the kickboards on first, it would have shifted the treads out and all would have fit and matched. • Most of the stair stringers are sitting down in the mud. This is a very wet location. It would have been better to put the stringers on concrete tiles. Both to keep them out of the mud and to distribute the load so that they are less likely to sink. I let Gary know of my review and he requested that his response be included and I am happy to do so: Tanja, you always start decking at house because you would have trouble fitting the last board the other way, and its better to trim the last one as it may not be the exact measurements all along. The kick boards are pre factory stained with 7yr warranty. The kick boards were designed to go on top to match the 5 1/2 '', the other way would be 7" not a standard size.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I would like to meet with you to give you a quote on your fence. A simple type fence (Six foot high) with 4x4 treated post and (3) 2x4 rails (not 2 rails like the others) and (pre-stained) 1x6 boards, runs about $18.50 a running foot, plus $75 per single gate. An (half exec.) style with the 4x4s showing on both sides
