Matt sent me a contract to sign which outlined the scope of the work. I also took pictures of each area of the yard with a written description of the job and I circled specific areas of need. When he arrived in the morning, I walked the yard with him and asked if he had any questions. I let him know that I'd be working from home, but to please text me if he needs anything and I'd respond as soon as possible. I explained that delays were possible if I am in a meeting when he texts. He told me previously that it wasn't necessary for me to be home at all. He texted me after a few hours and explained that he was done with the job. There was a delay in my response because I was in a meeting. I texted back as soon as possible letting him know that he was welcome to leave if he was finished because I was unable to step away. By the time I finished work it was dark, but I reviewed the work the following morning. Matt had not trimmed any of the bushes that I circled in the photos. These were many in number so it's not as though he just missed a couple. These bushes form the perimeter of the front and side of the yard and they were untouched. He also did not trim the ivy that I indicated in the photo and mentioned on a morning walkthrough. By photo, written direction, and discussion on the morning of his arrival, we discussed that he'd trim and weed along the back of the yard. It appears to be untouched. Inexplicably, what he did do is chop several limbs off 3 of my 4 magnolia trees. Two of them are decimated. Matthew was not asked to touch the trees at any time, so I was dumbfounded to see what he'd done. When I texted him the next day, he offered no explanation and suggested that it was my fault for not reviewing his work before his departure. This came from the same person who indicated I didn't need to be home at all as long as he had access to the yard. Even if I had been available to review his work that day, that would not have erased the damage he did to my trees. I offered him to return to complete the work he agreed to or return my money. He did neither and I've had no response from him at all. I waited a couple of weeks to post this review to give him the opportunity to do the right thing. Unfortunately, that never happened, so I'd like to share with others to spare them a similar outcome.
