Legendary Fencing & Decking were great. They showed up on time for the initial quotes, explained the process well and got to work and finished right on schedule. There were a couple of hiccups due to the house structure but they were able to resolve that quickly and professionally. Their pricing was fair and easy to understand as well. Overall it was a very positive experience with them

Legendary Fencing and Decking did an excellent job replacing a boardwalk area that was not a straightforward job. Previous owner did some “interesting” things and all of that had to be considered. I now have a boardwalk safer and better looking than the previous one!

We are just starting the project, but so far Codi has been great setting clear expectations, good pricing, and very responsive. I’ll complete the review with photos when the project is done.

We had a Chuck in the Truck situation where another contractor took our money and left the deck half done. Legendary came into rescue and made sure that the deck was rebuilt with high quality, more importantly it's within our budget. We were able to finish the deck with lights and water proof. The craftsmanship is topnotch and both David and Cody are extremely responsive and punctual, they also solved many issues during the project with extra labor, care and transparency. The end result is a great deck that my kids can enjoy, and looks great both in day time and night time. If you want a worry free experience, I highly recommend reaching out to Legendary deck and I hope your project will be a success too!

TL;DR: I hired them for a custom loft. During the project we had an argument about a ship ladder, leading to an early termination of the project. They also didn't follow the design provided before the project leading to failed inspection on permit. Long wall of text below. A few months back, I was looking to build a sleeping loft in our family room. I engaged a structural engineer and architect to design the loft. I then contacted Cody via Thumbtack after researching their portfolio for the project. I've shared the architecture and design multiple times via text and emails and Cody assured me he can build "whatever the architect has designed". I've put down a 12k deposit and kicked start the project. What I've learnt eventually is that Cody and David have a certain way to do decking, and they're reluctant to do stuff outside of what they are used to. At the same time they didn't consult the design doc as they're building. When the project got to the part of building the stair/ladder for the loft, we got into a problem. I wanted to have a stair/ladder that is steeper than the standard (with a slope angle about 50 degree). This was documented clearly in the architecture design that I've shared before the project started. When they cut the stringer neither in the style nor dimension of the design without checking with me, I pointed it out and asked for it to be fixed. In particular the stair landing didn't match with the end of the loft area (photo attached) They asked me to cover the cost of the replacement ($400), I proposed that we split the cost and they got upset with me and said "it's not the proper way to do it". Only when I opened the agreed design that they agreed it can be done in that way. (design photos included) Things halted when we again couldn't agree on the placement of the post for the handrail. I've attached a photo of the placement of the post that they propose. When I pointed out it didn't look like the design, and I couldn't approve the post, their answer was that the design couldn't be done. I suggested another placement. They said it would "look ugly" and "doesn't work that way". This is when I realized that they didn't get that while some of the parts of the design that they didn't particularly care about, it was important to me. Our values simply don't align: Cody and David value their way of building a deck, while I want a custom loft that matches my design. It had gotten to a point that any discussion could turn into an argument and communication was no longer productive. Here are the few things they have commented up until this point: - That the design of the stairs which was done by a structural engineer and an architect is not the proper way to do stairs. - That if they bring this to their friend to build the ladder as in the design, the friend would think "you're crazy" - That they can place a lien on my house if I don't pay them. Mind you this was in the middle of a discussion when the work wasn't even completed yet. - That if I posted a bad review on their website they could just take it down. - That "their time is money too" and if they could go back, they wouldn't do this project for me. Well that would make 2 of us. On top of that, the project was delayed and dragged out for a month to accommodate their other projects. I decided on that day to end the contract without the handrail installed, this is not worth the stress and anxiety from working with Cody and David, not knowing what part of the design they will disagree with me tomorrow and how long this would drag out. I paid them in full without the handrail - the project cost 19.7k in total. I now have a unfinished loft which failed framing inspection so 3k on architecture and permit fees down the gutter.
