Introduction
I've grown from having my dad yell at me to hold the flash light to yelling at myself to hold the flashlight. At first by word-of-mouth, I've assembled furniture, replaced outlets, fans, built decks, and installed wood floors. Customers have been so happy with my quality of work and attention to detail that they get their friends to hire me. It has worked great, but I've decided to try thumbtack to reach out even further. I look forward to hearing from you!

Great communication. Gave me options of when could be here to handle the job. Very timely and efficient. Great work. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

I can't say enough good things about the exceptional service I received. I was able to schedule an appointment with little notice, due to the Holidays. I had numerous things to assemble, two tv’s to mount, and two curtain rods to hang. He worked through the entire list of tasks and did a fantastic job. He was extremely pleasant and professional. I have plans to contact him again soon to complete some additional work. I would not hesitate to recommend him to family or friends. Feel confident knowing you are contacting an experienced handyman, with the tools necessary to get the job done!

He assumed I wanted the TV in one place but I wanted it in another he should have asked

Details: Wall mount • Drywall • TV smaller or equal to 60 inches • Yes, there’s an electrical outlet nearby • No, I don’t need to conceal cables and wires • Yes, I already have a mount or stand • Tilt (angled up or down) • None

Henrico Handyman's reply
Ronald, when I arrived we discussed two locations the TV could be mounted. You selected which wall and I obliged. I then made a frame with my hands and said “The tv would be mounted here, is that what you want?” You said yes. After I fixed the mount to the wall I asked you to verify. At that time you said you actually wanted it higher, so I moved the mount higher and asked you again to verify. You said that you were happy with the installation. When it came time to pay, you asked what it would cost as if you had no idea, even though I was clear of the price through thumbtack. You then shorted me $5 on the cost of the installation. I noticed, but chose not to make a big deal over $5. It’s a shame you then decide to write a poor review.

Devin was prompt with all of his communication. He was upfront about the cost. He provided good craftsmanship and competed the task in a timely fashion. I would definitely recommend him to others.

Disappointed I was charged an extra $40 in addition to the $80 just for him going on top of the roof. He didn’t disclose this information until after he came off the roof. Poor communication.

Details: Fixture or outlet not working • Outlets • 8 - 10 feet (standard ceiling) • House

Henrico Handyman's reply
Mrs. Middleton, I arrived at your home on time to diagnose a faulty outlet. This was for the previously agreed upon price of $80. I checked the breaker, inspected the outlet, and verified they were in proper working order. I then, at your discretion, tested 150 feet of Christmas lights along the roofline of your two story home. It is at this point you are technically correct. I could have, or should have, mentioned that the work would come at an additional charge. However, I was invested in fixing your problem. This resulted in discovering one string of lights was faulty, which I replaced. I also exchanged several fuses. You asked if I would readjust your lights in several places because you did not like what the previous installer had done. Specifically, you wanted me to make sure the plugs for each section of lighting was not hanging inside of the gutter. I obliged, which required that I climb onto the roof. I was at your home for an additional hour and a half, performing work beyond the scope of our original discussion. Instead of charging you and additional 1.5 hours (80 x 1.5), I charged you $40 in addition to the original agreed upon price, bringing the total to $120. At that time, you expressed no dissatisfaction with the price or the work performed. It’s disappointing that you decided to write such a poor review a few days later. I’m sorry that you feel you were not treated fairly.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

$50 for jobs under an hour. $65 an hour plus the cost of parts. If you just need something super simple, like an extra body to carry a heavy dresser up some stairs, we could work out something cheaper.
