FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Once I get a clear idea of the scope of work and the needs and wants of the customer, I often give a free estimate for the work. If the job is more complex, a site visit/ consultation may be required. When customers are designing or revamping their landscape and need help with the design, I charge a fee to create a landscape design depending on the size and complexity of the work. The design includes a landscape drawing, links to the plants for customers to see exactly what they are getting, and an estimate for the project. This saves the customer time from trying to figure out which plants work best, etc. I do not have any hidden fees. During the course of the work, should additional services or materials arise outside the original scope of work, I discuss these changes or add-ons with the customer ahead of time so that we are clear about any additional costs/ materials.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Once we connect on Thumbtack, I like to further communicate via phone or text to e-meet the customer and understand their specific needs. It is also very helpful for the customer to provide pictures so that I can give an accurate estimate and provide the best service. This way we’ve gotten a chance to at least e-meet each other, determine the specific scope of work and agree on a price before work commences. Depending on the complexity of the job, a site visit/ consultation may be required to meet with the customer, look at the job in better detail and discuss plant options. Afterwards, I can provide them with an estimate as well as a landscape design if needed for a fee.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I completed the Master Gardener course a number of years ago through the University of Maryland extension service. I also worked with a landscape architect where I learned the basics of planting, transplanting and garden design. The bulk of my knowledge comes from tried and true practice and experience over the years. Gardening, for me, is a dynamic journey of growth, change, and adaptation, mirroring the evolving tapestry of our climate. I take both a hands-on and academic approach to gardening. I am a perpetual student of plants, constantly learning about new varieties, studying native species, devouring gardening books, and collaborating with local gardeners, nursery professionals and other experts. My journey in gardening is a testament to the belief that in nurturing the earth, we cultivate not just gardens but a shared sense of beauty and harmony.
