Introduction
Creating Understanding Tutoring Services INC (CUTS) was established in 2010 as a provider of quality academic assistance at competitive pricing. We cumulatively have over 18 years of teaching experience in both public and independent schools, and have a Bachelor's in Physics and Mathematics with a minor in Chemistry as well as a Masters in Engineering Physics from the University of Virginia.
Our clientele range from elementary school students to college/career changers. Tutors have also served as a content instructor for home schooled students. We offer tailored instruction in the core content areas with a strong focus on the sciences, mathematics, and test preparation for the Virginia SOLs, ACT, SAT, GRE, and MCAT. Currently, we service Richmond Metro area clients in person and online. We service distant in-state and out-of-state clients through our online platforms.
There is nothing more rewarding then to see the light bulb go off in a student's mind. We love it when we can be a part of helping clients go from frustration to clarity and understanding, and ultimately to confidence. It never gets old and just reaffirms how pursuing the passion to help others obtain educational access and excel is truly worth it.

Words cannot describe how much of an impact John Young has made on my life. He is a great role model as well as a great tutor he can do anything from math to science, he never gets frustrated with you and he never minds going over it with you over and over again. I honestly don't know what I would have done without him throughout my high school math experience as well as my college math experience. I am now about to graduate from John Tyler Community College all thanks to his help. If you are looking for someone who is amazing at tutoring and won't make you feel dumb for asking questions (like how you feel in class) this is your guy.

Dr. John Young was beyond exceptional in every way with tutoring and preparing my daughter to take the GRE. Upon their initial meeting, which I sat in on, he asked her about her past undergrad math classes and concerns she had with various courses. John also wanted to learn what type of a test taker she was in order to customize his teaching strategy to fit her needs, which he did. I am a former public school teacher and can't express enough how impressed I was with him. He is by far superior and I highly recommend him to any parent whose child needs his tutoring from high school to the SAT to the GRE! He relieved my daughter's test anxiety and his teaching style was warm and welcoming. My daughter said she was so at ease with him and this also contributed to her success. She met weekly with him during last summer. Dr Young touched based with me regularly with her progress. He brought her to the level she needed to be and she was accepted to an Ivy League university! We are truly grateful for Dr Young's tutoring and can't thank him enough for his consistent upbeat personality, truly caring for her and for her academic mathematical needs, and his very unique and stellar style! Kudos to Dr John Young!

Best tutoring service out there!! John Young makes it affordable and convenient by coming to your home. His skill set and knowledge are so vast he can switch from math to science on the fly. John can read the student and teach a concept several different ways so that it matches their learning style. He stays with a concept until the 'light bulb clicks' and makes it fun. We've been with John for 5 years and our children's grades in both math and science have been consistent and top notch because they are truly learning the subject matter. Great SAT and ACT prep course!

John is a wonderful math tutor. My son was able to bring his grade up from a 73 to an 89 in less than 8 sessions in 8 weeks. John is patient, kind, fun, and very knowledgeable. My son was so frustrated, confused, and deflated after months of studying and trying to understand his teacher. He now feels confident and doesn't dread math any longer. I highly recommend CUTS.

Highly recommend!!!My daughter raised her math score by 150 points from the first practice test she took! John is brilliant in knowing not just the information needed,but the nuances involved in taking SAT's!
