FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been studying everything that relates to cleaning for 10 years. I know the components and reactions of every chemical in our caddies. I know what the inside of the motor looks like in every one of my machines. I know different types of spiders and common household insects, where they hide, where they have babies and the season they prefer to settle indoors. I know the difference between jute and wool rugs and how to get stains out of both, which happens to be 2 completely different processes. I know cleaning methods that will save you money on your elcetricity bill. I know that using a vinegar/water solution to clean hard wood floors will void a warrenty, when 5 years ago vinegar and water was supposed to be the best thing to use on wood floors. I know that a steam mop can ruin some types of tile floors and damage other types of wood floors. I could write a book. In fact, I have four 3 inch binders full of what I've been able to print or record from articles to papers to ingredients lists. All a part of my mission to be the best in the cleaning industry.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was introduced to this industry at just 18 when my a cleaning lady pulled into my parents driveway and asked me if I wanted a job! True story! She cleaned my neighbor's house and her helper had quit the day before so my neighbor suggested she ask me to help her out. I did and I loved it. 3 years later I opened Detail Cleaning and made a commitment to be the best in the industry. To do that I started studying cleaning. I know that sounds silly but I have learned so much! I wanted to know how the chemicals I used worked on surfaces. I also wanted to know about the surfaces themselves and the difference between acrylic and quartz. I wanted to understand how a magic eraser worked, have you ever thought about where the magic is in a magic eraser? I also made a goal to invest in the best equipment and supplies. Today I have 5 top quality vacuum bundles, 2 carpet shompooers, 6 cleaning caddies and an enormous supply of Bona, Fabulouso and much more. When I bought my first Hoover Platinum series vacuum bundle I was so excited! And now I have 5. My studying didn't stop at chemicals and materials. I took each one of my machines apart to learn how they worked, and how to fix them when needed. These vacuums are a big investment and I want them to last forever, and work at peak performance for my customers. And they do :) They are bagged and have hepa filtration systems. Don't ever let anyone clean your home with a bagless vacuum! It may be good for you to own one (I own a bagless for my home) but no matter what anyone says a bagless vacuum spits out dust, and transferring one person's dirt to another person's home is NOT COOL. So anyway, little by little I got to where I am now. It took a long time, and it was a much slower climb than I envisioned in the beginning but I am happy to be here. And I am proud of the women on my team, our company's awesome reviews and most importantly I'm proud to serve the Richmond area with the best quality service.
