FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first step is talk to the owners about what their expectations and goals are for their dog. Once we discuss their goals I am able to come up with a training plan that best fits the owner and dogs lifestyle.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I successfully completed a Veterinary Assistant Program in 2003 and a Advanced Canine Obedience / Behavior Modification Dog Trainer Course in 2002. I continue to attend many different types of dog training seminars to continue my education and to keep up with the most recent dog training methods.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
At nine years old my parents purchased a German shepherd named Sadie. Like most young dogs Sadie had lots of energy and needed a job. My parents enrolled Sadie and me in a local agility class as an outlet during the summer months. Sadie started my love for dogs and learning the many theories of animal behavior. I volunteered at a animal shelter from 2000 2003 assisting in temperament evaluations and implemented obedience training to shape appropriate behavior for successful adoptions. I was hired on by Cavalier K9 in 2002 training basic through advanced canine obedience / behavior modification training. In 2002 I was introduced to the sport of PSA (psak9.org). I started training my first Belgian Malinois Piper for trials and successfully titled her PSA PDC in 2005. I am an active member for American Belgian Malinois Rescue completing evaluations and fostering Belgian Malinois. My current competition dog Ada (Belgian Malinois) placed 1st place in the PSA 1 Level at the North East PSA trial held in Saco, Maine and then in 2012 won 1st place in Warrior Extreme Vertical at the 2012 Care A Lot Dock Dog event
