Introduction
Hello! I am John Kunu, a graduate of Shenandoah University (formerly, Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music), where as a Music Education major, my instrument was and still is Piano and Voice! :-) I am now offering my lessons online via FaceTime and Skype. Students are welcome to contact me for a complimentary, 30-minute online trial/evaluation. My background information: I have been a private piano teacher via my studio since 1988 throughout the Washington DC metropolitan area. I continue to play professionally for events (Corporate and Private) as well as do Recording studio work, Independent film scoring, and other performances 30+ years. Occasionally, I have to travel for my musical projects. I have a philosophy of allowing my students to develop a life-long love of the Arts. Each student's curriculum is tailored to grow their strengths, and encourage them through the challenges. Whether auditioning for Conservatory, Church or your next gig! Please contact me so I can help. I hope to hear from you soon! John

John Kunu is flexible in his approach to teaching, he brings many styles & skills to the keyboard, and he is willing to teach to what the goals of the student are rather than a regimented steps approach. John has been my daughter's piano teacher for several years. We are a musical family so it was important to us to choose a teacher with the depth in classical but also the breadth of knowledge in contemporary pop music, in order to keep our teen engaged in what she was learning. John's flexibility to teach to her interest areas while still making sure she mastered foundational skills and repertoire are rare in a piano teacher. We love that he weaves both classical instruction and improvisation so that a student is comfortable playing a piece of Bach as well as the latest songs on the radio. This has kept the learning fresh and relevant. But the greatest thing of all is when we hear our daughter wander over to the piano and just play -- she sounds beautiful and it is utter joy hearing your child make music and know that she will have this for a lifetime.

John has been teaching my daughter to play piano for a long time. He is an outstanding musician, is very patient and incredibly flexible. His understanding of music theory and approach to the piano is inspiring. He can play and explain any style of music that we have asked and we could not be happier. I highly recommend John.

John tutors our family in piano. He has an excellent method of progression of lessons and the role of lessons to expand the appreciation and the understanding of the music. He has a gentle approach which is good for the little ones but also drives the older ones with goals and instills passion for music.
